Abstract: A method is provided comprising: receiving a constant bit rate video stream representing a single video from a video source via a managed broadband connection; converting the constant bit rate video stream into a single non-adaptive bit rate video stream by modifying a video transport stack of the video to be compatible with a home device media player video transport stack; modifying a video control stack of the video to be compatible with a device in a home network; adding a home networking transport stack to the video stream, wherein the home networking transport stack is such that it would appear to the device in the home network as if the video stream came from a server local to the home network; and delivering the video stream to a device in the home network.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for accessing content is capable of retrieving and selecting information is facilitated by using uniform operations. Symbols corresponding to pre-recorded programs contained on a recording medium are displayed on a screen. In response to selecting one of the symbols, representative frames comprising the program are displayed on the screen. In response to selecting a representative frame, a portion of the program is played back. In a recording device, content is accessed by displaying a representative frame from each of a number of user-defined streams. At least a portion of a stream is played back in response to selection of the corresponding one of the representative frames.
Abstract: An automatic content recognition (ACR)-enabled connected TV device may be operable to present an overlay offering a coupon utilizing an ACR system, where the overlay may also be presented on a paired device. The ACR-enabled connected TV device may present information associated with a value of the coupon based on interaction with the presented overlay by the viewer. The value of the coupon may be determined based on a profile associated with the ACR-enabled connected TV device. The profile may be determined and maintained utilizing the ACR system. The viewer may obtain the coupon associated with the value information from a microsite assigned to the viewer. The viewer may share information on a link of the microsite with one or more other viewers. The value of the coupon may change when one or more of the other viewers click on the link of the microsite to obtain the coupon.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided that combine Open Mobile Alliance Mobile Broadcast Services (OMA BCAST) with different bearers, such as China Multimedia Mobile Broadcasting (CMMB) by associating service-related identifiers within an OMA BCAST Electronic Service Guide (ESG) with CMMB bearer-specific parameters. Furthermore, associating IP source and/or destination address pairs of a service with the location of the service within the CMMB bearer can be achieved and used with unicast, multicast, and broadcast environments. Further still, systems and methods are provided that allow for ESG bootstrapping, where a desired electronic service guide can be discovered by bootstrapping, e.g., OMA BCAST ESG.
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for identifying the operating state of an audio-video (AV) device are described. Example methods and apparatus include monitoring messages transmitted via a data bus in a first AV device, wherein the data bus is communicatively coupled to a processor and an AV network controller of the first AV device, and wherein the AV network controller is further communicatively coupled to a second AV device external to the first AV device. The example method also involves extracting messages associated with an operation of the second AV device from the monitored messages, analyzing the extracted messages for data associated with an operating state of the second AV device, and sending a command to the AV network controller to request data missing from the extracted messages and associated with the operating state of the second AV device.

Abstract: A method of determining demand for multimedia content in a multimedia provider network includes receiving a content demand statistics (CDS) request from a client application where the request identifies a subscriber set. Responsive to the CDS request, selected CDS data is retrieved from a CDS subsystem. The CDS data is indicative of demand for multimedia content among subscribers in the subscriber set. The retrieved CDS data is delivered to the client application. The selected data may be selected from past data, present data, and future data. The CDS request indicates a set of buddy subscribers and the messaging server retrieves CDS data associated with the buddy subscribers. A security subsystem may be accessed and to determine, prior to retrieving CDS data for a particular buddy subscriber, whether the particular buddy subscriber has authorized the requesting subscriber.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for automatically delivering data files (e.g. television and movies) via a personalized channel to a user, that are based on a user's profile and viewing habits, are provided. A client receives meta-data broadcasts from a server system that includes descriptions of a plurality of data files currently being broadcasted or to be broadcast by the server system. In response to a content rating table that is based on a user's profile and viewing habits, a data file is automatically selected. The selected data file is displayed on a personalized channel on a display device to the user. The selected data file can be, for example, a currently broadcasting data file or a data file stored in a cache memory of the client. Thus, the user only needs to tune to his or her personalized channel to view personalized content.

Abstract: A Personal TV System receives a plurality of video segments constituting a TV program and information describing each segment, and controls the display of the segments to a viewer in accordance with preferences of the viewer and with the description of each segment. Segments may be omitted or replaced with substitute segments. The viewer may review his preferences and edit or replace them. In a multi-viewer household, the system may prompt a viewer to confirm her preferences. A TV program may contain interactive segments, and when the viewer chooses to interact with a particular segment, the system automatically stores all subsequently received segments for later viewing while the viewer interacts with the selected segment. The system may present TV program choices to the viewer selected and arranged in accordance with her preferences.

Abstract: A network addressable appliance with digital multimedia recording capabilities has limited access including playback of stored multimedia content upon faulty connection with a service provider network. Upon a connectivity event, the network addressable appliance compares a retrieved hardware address for a connected residential gateway to a stored hardware address for an assigned residential gateway. If the two hardware addresses correspond, the network addressable appliance provides playback to stored multimedia content. The system helps prevent violations of digital rights management rules by restricting access to stored multimedia content while the network addressable appliance is connected to an unauthorized residential gateway. The system provides a user with limited access (i.e. playback) to multimedia content during service provider network outages.
