Abstract: Spring-powered device for swatting flies and other insects has a swatting element pivotably connected to an elongated handle through two axially-aligned helical springs interposing the swatting element and handle. The springs, provided with protruding ends for connection purposes, perform the triple function of connecting the handle to the swatting element, powering the swat, and providing a pivot or hinge on which the swatting element pivots. The springs are oppositely-wound, one on a left-hand and one on a right-hand helix, thereby providing lateral balance to the swat. A sliding rod affixed to the handle performs the functions of restraining the swatting element against the action of the springs prior to the swat and of subsequently releasing it into its swatting arc under spring power.
