  • Patent number: 8897148
Abstract: A method of operating a wireless device includes communicating in one of peer-to-peer data resources or non peer-to-peer resources. The peer-to-peer data resources include a first set of peer-to-peer resources with a first bandwidth and a second set of peer-to-peer resources with a second bandwidth greater than the first bandwidth. The first set of peer-to-peer resources is parallel in time with the non peer-to-peer resources. In addition, the method includes estimating a signal quality for a data transmission on the peer-to-peer data resources. Furthermore, the method includes determining whether to send the data transmission in one of the first set of peer-to-peer resources or the second set of peer-to-peer resources based on the estimated signal quality.

  • Patent number: 8873411
Abstract: Method and apparatus for provisioning an e-mail service to a mobile terminal in an e-mail system that uses e-mail addresses comprising a domain part. The apparatus maintains a list of good setting parameter sets versus e-mail domain parts. It receives an e-mail address and user authentication information from a user and compares the domain part of the received address with domain parts in the list of good parameter sets. If a match is found, e-mail service is provisioned with the matching parameter set. If no match is found, the apparatus requests and receives further parameters from the user, including an e-mail server address, and provisions the e-mail service with the further parameters. If the provisioning with the further parameters is successful, the domain part and the further parameters are used to generate a new setting parameter set in the list of good setting parameter sets.

  • Patent number: 8867341
Abstract: A switch device includes a packet-forwarding table for providing traffic management across servers in a server group. Each table entry maps a hash value to a server in the server group. A hash value is computed from data in one or more fields in the header of a received packet. The computed hash value is used as an index into the packet-forwarding table to access a table entry and to identify from the table entry the server in the server group to which the table entry maps the computed hash value. The switch device forwards the packet to the identified server. Implementing traffic management decisions in hardware enables packet switching at the line rate of the switch ports. In addition, the hardware-based traffic management performed by the switch device eliminates session tables and the memory to store them, enabling the switch device to handle an unlimited number of client connections.

  • Patent number: 8855001
Abstract: Techniques for controlling transmit power of a terminal are described. The terminal may send a first transmission (e.g., for pilot or signaling) on the reverse link, receive feedback (e.g., a power control command or an erasure indicator) for the first transmission, and adjust a reference power level based on the feedback. The terminal may also receive interference information and possibly other parameters such as a pilot quality indicator (PQI), an offset factor, and a boost factor from a sector. The terminal may determine transmit power for a second transmission to the sector based on the interference information, the reference power level, and/or the other parameters. The terminal may receive the feedback from one sector and may send the second transmission with CDMA or OFDMA to the same sector or a different sector.

  • Patent number: 8817645
Abstract: Estimation of available bandwidth on a network uses packet pairs and spatially filtering. Packet pairs are transmitted over the network. The dispersion of the packet pairs is used to generate samples of the available bandwidth, which are then classified into bins to generate a histogram. The bins can have uniform bin widths, and the histogram data can be aged so that older samples are given less weight in the estimation. The histogram data is then spatially filtered. Kernel density algorithms can be used to spatially filter the histogram data. The network available bandwidth is estimated using the spatially filtered histogram data. Alternatively, the spatially filtered histogram data can be temporally filtered before the available bandwidth is estimated.

  • Patent number: 8787161
Abstract: A method of operating a data network may include establishing a data path through the data network between a routing gateway and service provider equipment providing a data service. Moreover, the data service may be provided for use at the routing gateway over the data path during a data session. A request may be received from the service provider equipment where the request defines a data flow characteristic for the data path between the routing gateway and the service provider equipment providing the data service. The data flow characteristic may then be transmitted to a network element along the data path between the routing gateway and the service provider equipment. A request from service provider equipment can include an allowed bandwidth or prioritization. Related methods, data networks, data service providers, routing gateways, and computer program products are also discussed.

  • Patent number: 8774020
Abstract: A device for a method for determining the transmission performance of sub-channels of a transmission channel in a radio-communication system is specified, where data-comprising signal carriers are generated for the setup of the transmission channel within the radio-communication system and accommodated in the sub-channels of the transmission channel, and the transmission performance of the sub-channels is determined on the basis of the signal sub-carriers superposed with interferers. In this context, each sub-channel occupies a separate bandwidth sub-range of a total bandwidth range of the transmission channel. The bandwidth sub-range is disposed within the bandwidth at a spacing distance from other bandwidth sub-ranges of the total bandwidth range, and the interferers are limited to the bandwidth sub-range allocated to the respective sub-channel.

  • Patent number: 8750116
Abstract: Methods and apparatus related to communicating and/or using load information in support of decentralized traffic scheduling decisions are described. Individual wireless terminals corresponding to a peer to peer connection which desire to communicate traffic signals make transmitter yielding and/or receiver yielding decisions on a traffic slot by traffic slot basis. Loading information is used to intentionally skew transmitter yielding decisions in response to conditions and/or needs in the system. A link load weight value is generated based on intended transmitter loading related information and/or intended receiver loading related information. Traffic request parameters and/or link load weight values are communicated between wireless communications devices in request and/or request response signaling.
