  • Patent number: 4222159
Abstract: A method of manufacturing a color display tube of the refocusing type in which supports of insulation material are secured against an apertured metal plate. The supports are provided with a conductor at least on the side remote from the plate, so that the plate constitutes a first set of lens electrodes and the conductors constitute a second set of lens electrodes. The two sets of lens electrodes form a quadrupole lens in each aperture in the metal plate when a voltage difference is applied between the first set and the second set. The defocusing direction of the quadrupole lens is parallel to the phosphor strips of the display screen.

  • Patent number: 4216918
Abstract: The fiberizer is constructed with a closed chamber provided with an inlet for a waste paper suspension as well as with discharge openings for stock, impurities of low specific gravity and impurities of high specific gravity. The rotor which serves to rotate the stock suspension within the vessel has a central duct which communicates the central part of the chamber with the discharge opening for the impurities of low specific gravity. In one embodiment, the vessel is mounted vertically and has a downwardly tapering wall which terminates at an opening for the discharge of impurities of high specific gravity. In a second embodiment, the vessel has a conical end wall opposite the rotor which has an apex directed towards the rotor. In this embodiment, the opening for the discharge of impurities of high specific gravity can be disposed in the base of this end wall if the vessel is vertically positioned or in a sidewall if the vessel is horizontally oriented.

  • Patent number: 4210192
Abstract: Method and apparatus for automatically controlling the pouring of molten metal into a series of closed casting molds is disclosed. Molten metal flows in a stream from a lip-pour or bottom-pour casting ladle into a pouring gate at the top of a mold and partially fills the gate. Visible light or infrared radiation is emitted from the metal surface in the gate and is detected by a sensing device. The sensing device generates a signal which is a function of the radiation received, and therefore the apparent area of the surface of metal in the gate. The signal operates a ladle control mechanism to control the flow rate of the stream to keep the gate level substantially constant during pouring.

  • Patent number: 4210291
Abstract: A rolling mill having a rotary bowl supported on a casing of a step-down ve transmission has two parallel gear trains leading from a common input shaft to a spur output gear wheel arranged horizontally beneath the bowl. A vertical drive shaft is splined at opposite ends and transmits the gear wheel drive, without relative rotation to the bowl. The bowl is provided with horizontal and vertical bearings which are separate from the bearings of the output gear wheel. The drive shaft, by canting slightly, is able to transmit drive without lateral thrusts from the bowl to the gear wheel. As a result, wear of the gear wheel teeth produced by small misalignments of the axis of the bowl and gear wheel during operation of the mill is avoided and the life of the mill is prolonged. Provision is made for vertical removal of the shaft and the splined diameter at the lower end is less than that at the upper end to facilitate this. Involute teeth are used for the splines.
