  • Patent number: 4083255
Abstract: A vibration sensing and measuring system is disclosed as including a series connected signal generator, vibration sensor adapted for being connected to any appropriate compatible object from which the vibration information and/or parameters analogous thereto are desired, and utilization apparatus - such as, for example, a readout - for indicating or otherwise utilizng the measured vibrations of said vibrating apparatus. When the aforesaid object vibrates, said sensor vibrates in synchronism therewith; thus a liquid disposed therein is disturbed in such manner as to cause standing waves at the surface thereof that are proportional thereto.

  • Patent number: 4081990
Abstract: An apparatus for the hydrostatic testing of pipe and pipe connections is provided. The apparatus features an elongated tool body which can be inserted into the interior portion of a connected series of pipe joints or the like. The device is inserted into a pipe joint in proximity to a connection between two joints which has been "made up" by means of, for example, a threaded connection. The device utilizes a pair of expanding flexible packing seals which expand and sealably contact the pipe wall forming a pressure test area between the seals and at the pipe joint to be tested. Fluid pressure supplied through a central conduit in the tool body flows into the pipe between the packing seals through a nozzle injector in the tool body in proximity to the joint which is to be tested. The test fluid then first expands the pair of flexible seals and fills the pipe with water upon which a desired test pressure is exerted.

  • Patent number: 4082000
Abstract: An improved structure for a disposable meat and poultry thermometer has a unitary top barrel closure extending laterally outward from a barrel beneath an indicating stem latched in storage position by a prong on the stem engaging the top closure. Lifting the outer end of the stem releases the latch so that a compression spring within the barrel urges an inner axial stem extension into a front barrel bore containing a material having a predetermined softening temperature so that the stem moves inwardly of the barrel as the inner barrel end temperature increases. Upper stem markings indicate thermometer temperature preferably in terms of the degree to which meat or the like is cooked.

  • Patent number: 4081999
Abstract: A thermometer having temperature limit indication includes a support plate having a bimetal coil secured to the plate by a suitable hub. A pointer arm is extended from the bimetal coil and positioned across a temperature scale on the plate in accordance with the sensed temperature. A portion of the plate is bent outwardly to define an inclined plane member at a selected temperature limit and in the path of the pointer arm. The coil mounted pointer has sufficient resiliency to permit movement over the inclined plane while insuring latching behind such bent outwardly portion if at the temperature limit. A plurality of spaced bent outwardly members may be provided to indicate various limits. The inclined plane member may be a separate adjustable element to permit adjustment of the temperature limit position.

  • Patent number: 4080828
Abstract: The oscillation frequency of the output signal of a ring oscillator is changed in response to a change in the relative position between the coil in the ring oscillator and a float including a conductive member and vertically movable in accordance with changes in the level of a liquid to be measured. The amount of electric power consumed by the ring oscillator itself is changed in accordance with changes in the oscillation frequency of the oscillator output signal. The power consumption of the ring oscillator is detected in accordance with the voltage across a resistor inserted in the power line from the electric power source to the ring oscillator, so that when this voltage attains a predetermined value, an indicator designed to indicate that the liquid level has attained a predetermined level is brought into operation.

  • Patent number: 4080779
Abstract: The production of plied yarn in pot spinning in which a pot is filled with yarn emerging in one direction from a reciprocating traversing tube. When the pot is filled to the desired extent a lead yarn is injected into the pot by pneumatic means in a direction opposite to the said one direction so that yarn from the traversing tube is wound around the lead yarn. The lead yarn is then withdrawn from the pot in said one direction and the yarn in the pot is wound around further yarn from the traversing tube.

  • Patent number: 4080822
Abstract: A method of leak testing a transport vessel for radioactive material is disclosed. Tracer gas (helium) and pressurizing driving gas (nitrogen), the latter in condensed form, are introduced into the transport vessel when in open condition. The tracer gas is introduced in a plastic bag which occupies a major part of the interior of the transport vessel the through which the tracer gas diffuses at a low rate. The liquid pressurizing gas is introduced in a smaller vessel. After the transport vessel has been sealed, the tracer gas diffuses out of the collapsing plastic bag and the pressurizing gas boils off resulting in a pressurized tracer gas atmosphere within the transport vessel. The transport vessel is now examined on the outside with respect to any tracer gas penetrating out through possible leaks in the transport vessel.

  • Patent number: 4080775
Abstract: Process and apparatus for yarn piecing in an open end spinning assembly are provided. The individual steps of the yarn piecing process are controlled by a predetermined piecing program whose start is triggered as a function of the running up of a previously braked down spinning rotor, so that a yarn carried back into the spinning rotor will be applied in the spinning rotor to a fiber ring at a time during which the spinning rotor has only reached a revolutionary speed that is below the operating revolutionary speed thereof. In order to avoid imprecisions in the piecing process caused by delays and/or differences in the running up characteristics of the individual spinning rotor, one or more predetermined spinning rotor revolutionary speeds are established, and upon reaching the same, the yarn piecing process is initiated and controlled.

  • Patent number: 4079629
Abstract: Various two cycle engines require different gasoline to oil ratios for proper operation of the engine. These ratios may vary as much as from 15 to 1 to 50 to 1 or possible even greater. Usually the gasoline used is contained in one to two one-half gallon cans. This makes it difficult to provide the particular ratio of oil to gasoline in the can. The present measuring device is provided to eliminate this difficulty.
