  • Patent number: 9061481
Abstract: Certain example embodiments relate to robust semi-transparent coatings that are suitable for use in a wide variety of display-on-demand mirror applications, and methods of making the same. In certain example embodiments, a coated article includes a coating supported by a glass substrate. A reflective metal-inclusive layer is formed, directly or indirectly, on the glass substrate. A silicon oxide inclusive layer is formed, directly or indirectly, on the reflective metallic layer. A titanium oxide inclusive layer is formed, directly or indirectly, on the silicon oxide inclusive layer. The metal-inclusive layer is formed so as to reflect incoming light away from the glass substrate such that substantially less incoming light would be reflected away from the glass substrate if lighting were provided on a side of the glass substrate opposite the coating than if no lighting were provided. The surface of the coated article need not necessarily be conductive.

  • Patent number: 9060418
Abstract: Systems and methods for improved window mounting on electronic devices are provided. A window mounting assembly can include a heat activated adhesive, such as a heat activated film (“HAF”), which can be used to secure a window to an enclosure. In some embodiments, heated air can be blown in from a bottom side of the window, which can provide better offset control in the assembly. In some embodiments, an undercut can be made in the enclosure that can act as a trap for HAF overflow. An overhang that is created by the undercut can reduce the visibility of HAF overflow from a user. In addition, the heated air that is applied to the window can create a high pressure region in an area underneath the window. The high pressure region can direct the HAF overflow away from this area and towards the undercut in the enclosure.

  • Patent number: 9056415
Abstract: A forming device and a method of manufacture of a fillet of plastic for aircraft assemblies. The fillet has a pre-determined profile for filling a cavity of a structural element. The fillet is formed using a former of a forming device. The method includes applying at least one blank of a base material of plastic between at least two opposed press beds of the former and at least one of the press beds including an elongated groove. At least one press bed is towards another press bed, until the press beds are in position for completed compression of the fillet. Each groove for forming of the fillet generates a fillet in correspondence with the pre-determined profile. The press beds are separated from each other for releasing the formed fillet. The formed fillet is removed from the former. The formed fillet is applied in the cavity.

  • Patent number: 9049888
Abstract: An ashtray having a conical shaped wall. The ashtray is used in sandy environments. The wall consists of wall supports and a series of elongated blades along the length of the lower wall. The ashtray has an attached lid that snaps into the wall supports with an opening to receive extinguished cigarettes. When the ashtray is inserted into the substrate, the external pressure exerted against the wall causes the blades to open. The ashtray is then twisted into the substrate causing the receptacle to fill with sand thereby covering the lid. Cigarettes are extinguished in the substrate. Once the upper surface is filled with waste, the ashtray is lifted and the substrate easily exits the wall cutouts and bottom opening. The butts are easily pushed through the lid. The ashtray can then be reinserted into the substrate covering the waste and providing for a fresh surface to receive additional cigarettes.

  • Patent number: 9045365
Abstract: When melting a glass layer 3 by irradiating a region to be fused R therealong with a laser beam L1, the region to be fused R is irradiated therealong with the laser beam L1 having a first heat input, so as to melt the glass layer 3, the heat input is switched when the melting ratio of the glass layer 3 in a direction substantially orthogonal to a moving direction of the laser beam L1 exceeds a predetermined level, and the region to be fused R is irradiated therealong with the laser beam L1 having a second heat input smaller than the first heat input, so as to fix the glass layer 3 to a glass member 4. This inhibits the glass layer 3 from falling into an excessive heat input state and thus deters the glass layer 3 from crystallizing during burning. The glass member 4 is fused to a glass member 5 through the glass layer 3 thus deterred from crystallizing, so as to yield a glass fusing structure 1.
