  • Patent number: 5072974
Abstract: An oven door latching system has a latch bolt with a latch arm at one end and its other end pivotably connected to a lever through a resilient connection. The lever in turn is pivotably coupled to a positioning device which has a positioning element which is reciprocatable between spaced positions. When the positioning element is moved, pivotal motion is imparted to the other end of the lever, and the connection enables pivotal motion of the latch bolt. A solenoid acts on the positioning device to move the positioning element between its stable positions and produces concurrent motion of the lever to enable movement of the bolt between an oven door latching position and an oven door unlatching position.

  • Patent number: 5072977
Abstract: A latch retraction device for narrow stile doors which may be hinged either on the left side or on the right side, and which utilizes a push or pull actuator for retracting the latch instead of utilizing a rotary knob for that purpose. The device utilizes inter-engaged toothed elements to provide linear to rotary motion in a novel configuration of parts which permits one set of parts to be utilized to provide either a push or a pull actuation for latch retraction with either a right hand or left hand door and thereby eliminating the necessity to manufacture and inventory a large number of parts to accommodate all four types of desired uses.

  • Patent number: 5069491
Abstract: A vehicle door lock system includes a rotary latch having an elongate housing with an end formation that is "inclined" or "tapered" so as to be wedgingly engaged, when "latched," by a correspondingly inclined or tapered wedge block component of an L-shaped striker assembly. As the rotary latch releasably engages the striker to effect "latching," the inclined or tapered end region of the latch housing cooperatively engages the wedge block of the striker to guide the latch into properly aligned engagement with the striker, and to maintain proper alignment of the rotary latch with the striker while "latched." By this arrangement, a strong, racking-resistant type of latched connection is provided that will assist in preventing undesired relative movements of a door and a door frame on which the latch and striker are mounted, respectively. Handle assemblies are connected to the rotary latch to operate the latch to effect "unlatching" of the latch and the striker.

  • Patent number: 5067755
Abstract: A locking mechanism for use in a lightweight safe includes a toothed spur main drive gear mounted on a rotatable axis journaled through the safe's door. The main drive gear mechanically engages a pinion gear which in turn meshes with a vertically disposed rack gear. A second pinion gear also engages the rack gear and further engages a second drive gear. A securement locking mechanism, mounted to the interior face of the safe door proximate the main drive gear, is adapted for cooperation with the main drive gear for detachably restraining the main drive gear in a non-rotative orientation. The pinion drive gear/rack gear arrangement is adapted to transfer motion from the main drive gear around the aforesaid securement mechanism to the second drive gear. Each drive gear is mechanically associated with one or more laterally displaceable rack gears adapted to be displaced into engagement with the safe door frame to produce a locking engagement therewith.
