Abstract: A light diffusion element includes a light diffusion layer that contains at least two types of liquid crystal molecules each having a different light scattering characteristic defined by a voltage and a refractive index. A pair of electrodes sandwiches the light diffusion layer, an applying unit generates and applies a variable voltage to the pair of electrodes, and a voltage changing unit varies the voltage generated by the applying unit. The voltage changing unit varies the voltage such that each of the refractive indexes of the liquid crystal molecules in the light diffusion layer changes temporally.

  • Patent number: 8130189
Abstract: The invention relates to a gate driving device for Thin Film Transistor liquid crystal display comprising: a plurality of shift registers directly deposited on an array substrate, said shift registers being composed of effect transistors and a capacitor, obtaining a gate driving signal voltage by controlling an input signal. Said shift register can be realized by 5-layer mask process or 4-layer mask process, by arranging the field effect transistors on the margin part outside the active region on the substrate or at the edge of the substrate, and then directly depositing them on an array substrate. The invention obtains a gate driving signal voltage by the shift registers directly deposited on the substrate, thus overcoming the shortage of the need of driving chips and film layers in the prior art, substantially reducing the production cost for LCD.

  • Patent number: 8125414
Abstract: An EL display device is operable in analogue and digital modes. In the analogue mode a current is supplied to the EL display elements (2) in dependence on a data signal (6) supplied to the pixel, and in the digital mode one of two voltages is provided across the EL display elements in dependence on the data signal supplied to the pixel. This enables the display to have a low power standby mode in which a digital drive scheme is implemented. This is particularly appropriate for static images and preferably for images without grey scales. The first mode is the normal current addressing mode.

  • Patent number: 8120552
Abstract: Problems such as insufficient brightness, caused by a reduction in duty ratio (the ratio of a light emitting period and a non-light emitting period), are improved upon in accordance with using a novel method of driving and a novel circuit in an electronic device. Signals are written into pixels of a plurality of differing lines during one gate signal line selection period. By arbitrarily setting, to a certain extent, the time from when a signal is input into the pixels of a certain line until the next signal is input to the same pixels, while ensuring the time for writing into the pixels, a sustain (turn on) period can be arbitrarily set and a high duty ratio is realized.

  • Patent number: 8115788
Abstract: An object is to reduce a pseudo contour occurring in time gray scale method display. One pixel is divided into m subpixels (m is an integer of m?2), and the area of the (s+1)th subpixel (1?s?m?1) is twice the area of the s-th subpixel. Further, one frame is divided into n subframes (n is an integer of n?2), and a lighting period of the (p+1)th subframe (1?p?n?1) is 2m times longer than a lighting period of a p-th subframe. Then, at least one subframe of the n subframes is divided into a plurality of subpixels each having a lighting period shorter than that of the subframe so that the n subframes are increased to t subframes (t>n). In at least one subframe of the t subframes, lighting periods of the subframes in a lighting state are sequentially added by the m subpixels, so that a gray scale of the pixel is expressed.

  • Patent number: 8115702
Abstract: A plasma display device and a method of driving the same, capable of reducing or preventing the deterioration of components such as a switching device, due to an overcurrent. In a reset period, in order to cause the voltage of a scan electrode to ramp down from a first voltage to a second voltage, a panel driver includes a falling ramp switch that repeats turn-on/turn-off operations, alternately coupling and de-coupling a low-level power supply to the scan electrode, resulting in a gradually falling ramp waveform. A switch controller generates a switching pulse to control the falling ramp switch. Each turn-on time of the switching pulse for the initial falling ramp waveform following a power-on of the plasma display device is controlled to be shorter than each turn-on time of the switching pulse for other falling ramp waveform.
