  • Patent number: 9888839
Abstract: Methods and apparatuses for determining contact lens intolerance in contact lens wearer patients based on tear film characteristics analysis and dry eye symptoms are disclosed. In embodiments herein, imaging of the ocular tear film is performed during contact lens wear. An analysis of the image of the ocular tear film is performed to determine one or more tear film characteristics of the ocular tear film. The tear film characteristics can be used to determine the effect or possible effect of contact lens wear on the ocular tear film, and thus be used to determine contact lens intolerance of the patient. The tear film characteristics used to analyze contact lens intolerance based on images of the ocular tear film involving contact lens wear may include dry eye symptoms, including but not limited to tear film (e.g., lipid and/or aqueous) thickness, tear film viscosity, and tear film movement rate in the eye.

  • Patent number: 9880398
Abstract: This invention discloses methods and apparatus for providing a variable optic insert into an ophthalmic lens. The variable optic insert may have surfaces within that have differing radii of curvature. A liquid crystal layer may be used to provide a variable optic function and in some embodiments, an alignment layer for the liquid crystal layer may be patterned in a radially dependent manner. The patterning may allow for the index of refraction of the optic device to vary in a gradient-indexed or GRIN manner. An energy source is capable of powering the variable optic insert included within the ophthalmic lens. In some embodiments, an ophthalmic lens is cast-molded from a silicone hydrogel. The various ophthalmic lens entities may include electroactive liquid crystal layers to electrically control optical characteristics.

  • Patent number: 9851588
Abstract: An eyewear with a pair of light emitting diodes (LED) matrices is an apparatus that enhances the aesthetic appeal of the eyewear by illuminating different patterns and letterings with the pair of LED matrices. A left lens and a right lens each have an LED matrix, which traverse through and protrude out of their respective lens. Both LED matrices are electronically connected to a programmable microcontroller, which is able to turn on/off each individual LED in order to create the patterns and letterings on the LED matrices. The microphone and VU meter also allows the LED matrices to display patterns and lettering that relate to the music or sounds around the apparatus. Each individual LED for both LED matrices are properly spaced apart from each other so that visibility is not significantly reduced while wearing the apparatus.
