  • Patent number: 7223089
Abstract: Infinitely adjustable calibrating shell includes a central piece formed by strips or bands which are hingedly connected to each other and intersect like an extendable lattice that is formed into a shell. Preferably, the ends of the strips are movably connected to annular heads. The inner diameter of the central piece which is decisive for the calibrating process, can be modified by axially changing the distance between the annular heads, the cross section of the central piece having a circular shape in each axial position. The infinitely adjustable calibrating shell is suitable for continuous extruded plastic parts, in particular plastic pipes.

  • Patent number: 7223087
Abstract: A mold for relatively uniform heating and molding of a work material to form a workpiece using a microwave oven, includes upper and lower mold members and a sidewall mold member. The mold members are formed from materials selected to have an approximately equal effective thermosensitivity. The effective thermosensitivity of work material is its dissipation factor divided by the product of its dielectric constant, density and specific heat. The effective thermosensitivity of the material of mold layer of each mold member is its dissipation factor divided by the product of its dielectric constant, density, and specific heat and multiplied by the fraction of the mass of its mold layer divided by the total mass of this mold member. A metal sleeve is formed on an inner surface of the sidewall mold member with microwave absorbing material formed on the outside thereof and inner surfaces of the end mold members may also be coated with metal or other highly thermally conductive and wear resistant material.

  • Patent number: 7220113
Abstract: Gauge distribution apparatus for plastic film has a frame, a rotor mounted on the frame for sequential reversed rotation about a substantially vertical axis, and at least one slot in the rotor through which two lengths of plastic film can pass upwardly with spaced adjacent faces from below the rotor. First and second turning members are mounted on the rotor for receiving a respective length of plastic film and changing the direction of motion thereof from upwardly to horizontally. A series of upstanding circumferentially spaced film engaging members extend around the rotor, each film engaging member having an outer surface for engagement by the plastic film. Third and fourth turning members are mounted on the frame for receiving a respective length of plastic film after it has engaged at least one of the film engaging members and changing its direction of motion from horizontally to vertically.

  • Patent number: 7172408
Abstract: A resin transfer molding (RTM) process is disclosed for rapidly filling a fibrous preform and/or a rigid, porous body with high viscosity resin or pitch. The process is suitable for impregnated multiple porous bodies stacked in a single mold. The process uses a fibrous preform or rigid porous body which is placed into a mold matching the desired part geometry. A resin is injected into the mold at temperature and pressure. After cooling, the infiltrated component is removed from the mold. The mold is constructed from two halves fitted to form at least one mold cavity. A gate fitted with a nozzle is set into one of the mold halves, and a valve admits resin or pitch into the gate area. Venting or vacuum can be applied to the mold. The mold is held in a hydraulic press and an extruder, optionally fitted with an accumulator, supplies molten resin or pitch to the mold.

  • Patent number: 7172403
Abstract: A gypsum wallboard core, and methods and apparatus for making the same are disclosed. Methods of making a gypsum wallboard core include extruding a gypsum slurry containing water, gypsum, slip agents, water-reducing agents, surfactants and, optional additives, through a die and onto a substantially flat, smooth, moving surface. The die has provisions at its outer sides for the introduction of slip agents into the slurry, and provisions at its lateral outer edges for the introduction of a strength-enhancing agent. Once extruded onto the conveyor belt, the slurry is chemically-activated to set and form a hardened board core which then may be easily removed from the conveyor belt and dried.

  • Patent number: 7172402
Abstract: Described is a mold jaw half for an apparatus for the production of transversely ribbed tubes, wherein the mold jaw half (16) has end faces and a base face and in its interior a cooling passage with a coolant feed and a coolant discharge, which open at a spacing from each other at the base face of the mold jaw halves. In order to provide a reduced flow resistance for the coolant through the cooling passage and consequently an increased coolant through-put, resulting in an improved cooling action, it is proposed that the coolant feed and the coolant discharge cross, as seen in a direction viewing on to the end faces of the mold jaw halves, and are oriented in opposite relationship with respect to the advance direction of the mold jaw half. That mutually opposite orientation provides that the coolant is virtually shovelled into the cooling passage.
