  • Patent number: 9764599
Abstract: In a pneumatic tire, shoulder blocks are formed with one of two types of values for block width measured in the tire circumferential direction. A cross-sectional shape of a tread ground contact edge of the shoulder blocks with the smaller block width value when sectioned in a plan that includes a tire axial center is formed with a squared portion formed by a curved line having a radius of curvature of 10 mm or less, or is formed with a squared portion taper cut along a straight line having a length of 10 mm or less. A cross-sectional shape of a tread ground contact edge of the shoulder blocks with the larger block width value when sectioned in the plan that includes the tire axial center is formed with a rounded portion formed by a curved line having a radius of curvature of from 30 mm to 60 mm inclusive.

  • Patent number: 9757992
Abstract: This invention relates generally to tires having multiple carcasses that wrap around multiple bead cores on a single side of the tire, and, more specifically, to a tire that has a bead core locking insert that eliminates a pullout step for one of the carcass plies or bands during fabrication, This step includes wrapping one of the plies or bands completely around said multiple bead cores that are found on a single side of the tire. In certain embodiments, the tire is an aviation tire that has bands of multiple plies that are wrapped about multiple bead cores found on each side of the tire. The bead core locking insert is found below the multiple bead cores found on each side of the tire and is adjacent to the bands that wrap around the inside and outside head cores, thereby locking these beads and associated bands together.

  • Patent number: 9623710
Abstract: A pneumatic tire having enhanced on-ice braking performance achieved by further increasing the amount of water that can be sucked up into sipes. In the pneumatic tire, blocks (26) partitioned by circumferential grooves and lateral grooves are formed in the tread. A sipe (28) is formed in a block (26), and a fine structure (32) having a height in the range of from 1/50 of the sipe width t to less than 1/10 of the sipe width t is formed on a sipe wall surface. This reduces fluid friction coefficient of water relative to the sipe wall surface to a lower level than conventional products. As a result, when water staying on ice comes into contact with the sipe wall surface, the water is more easily sucked up into the sipe. The construction increases the amount of water that can be sucked up into the sipe (28) or the removal amount of water that stays on ice etc., and this enhances braking performance (friction characteristics) on ice.
