  • Patent number: 11053770
Abstract: An electrical submersible pump (“ESP”) has a seal member that carries a packer. A retainer initially retains the packer in a fixed axial position with the seal member as the ESP is lowered into a well conduit. The retainer is releasable after the packer has been set in the conduit in response to a thermal growth axial force on the seal member, enabling relative axial movement between the seal member and the packer. The seal member has annular seal rings that extend over an axial length on the tubular member that is greater than an axial length of the bore of the packer.

  • Patent number: 11047205
Abstract: A valve seal assembly that provides for external pressure to be introduced to an energized seal of a valve, and compress the seal against a gate with enough force to block any paths where sand and chemicals would otherwise travel into valve body cavity or void. The external pressure introduced through pressure fitting makes the parts move like piston forcing the parts to compress together eliminating the machined tolerances or gaps required for the gate to be opened or closed. The compression can be provided by hydraulic pressure devices through injection ports. A separate valve seal assembly can be provided for each face of the gate and both assemblies can be activated when the fluids are flowing (open position) and an upstream valve seal assembly activated when the gate is in a closed position.

  • Patent number: 11041352
Abstract: A system can include an annular restrictor connected in a tubular string. The annular restrictor restricts flow through an annulus formed between the tubular string and a wellbore. Restriction to the flow through the annulus biases the tubular string into the wellbore, and fluid in the wellbore displaces into the tubular string and/or a formation penetrated by the wellbore. A method can include connecting an annular restrictor in a tubular string, and flowing a fluid through an annulus formed between the tubular string and a wellbore, thereby causing a differential pressure across the annular restrictor, the differential pressure biasing the tubular string into the wellbore. Another method can include connecting an annular restrictor in a tubular string, flowing a fluid through an annulus, thereby biasing the tubular string into a wellbore, and then causing the annular restrictor to no longer restrict flow through the annulus.

  • Patent number: 11015436
Abstract: A method for evaluating a wellbore treatment includes inducing an acoustic wave in the wellbore prior to treatment. Acoustic energy propagating as pressure waves in the wellbore is detected. A formation in fluid communication with the wellbore is treated. The inducing an acoustic wave and detecting acoustic energy are repeated. A characteristic of the treatment is determined based on differences between the detected acoustic energy prior to the treating and at the end of the treating. In some embodiments, the observed differences are then also compared to differences observed in prior treatment stages to assess benefit of changes to treatment design. In some embodiments, the treatment design parameters are continuously iterated, adjusted, and improved to maximize the contribution to production of all subsequent stages in same or any other well.

  • Patent number: 11008809
Abstract: A drilling assembly includes a power section with a housing that rotates in a first direction at a drill string rotation rate. An output rotates a drill bit through a transmission shaft in the first direction at a rotor rotation rate relative to the housing. A bent housing between the power section and the drill bit rotates in a second direction at a variable rotation rate relative to the power housing. The transmission shaft extends through the bent housing. A mechanical brake system adjusts the bent housing's variable rotation rate. The bent housing rotates relative to the wellbore in a rotary mode, but not in a sliding mode. The sliding mode maintains the drill bit's direction and inclination while the drill string rotates. In all modes, the drill bit's rotation rate is the sum of the drill string rate and the rotor rate relative to the power housing.

  • Patent number: 11002108
Abstract: Systems and methods for drilling optimization of a subterranean well include securing a multifunction sub in line with a tubular string. A nozzle provides a fluid flow path from the central bore through a sidewall of the sub body, the nozzle oriented in a direction so that the fluid flow path directs a wellbore fluid from within the central bore in a direction uphole. A valve system can move between a closed position where the fluid flow path of the nozzle is closed, and at least one open position where the wellbore fluid can pass through the fluid flow path. A control system is operable to receive information and provide a signal to move the valve system. The tubular string is moved into a bore of the subterranean well and information is delivered to the control system to regulate the flow of wellbore fluid through the nozzle.
