Patent number: 4618254Abstract: A system is disclosed for automatically controlling the light intensity of a light source as a function of the amount of light received by a photosensor. In a preferred embodiment the light source illuminates a reference background which, in turn, reflects the light incident thereon to a photosensor in a video camera. In response to this reflected light, the photosensor produces a video signal which is proportional to the amount of light reflected thereon. A first processor is responsive to the reception of the video signal over a preselected period of time and provides a first signal which is proportional to the amount of reflected light received by the photosensor over that preselected period of time. A second processor is responsive to the first signal and generater a control signal to automatically cause an adjustable power supply to change the voltage applied to the light source as a function of the amplitude of the control signal.Type: GrantFiled: October 15, 1982Date of Patent: October 21, 1986Assignee: NCR Canada LtdInventors: Roger H. Patent number: 4616108Abstract: A direct broadcast communication satellite system prevents over-charge for earth-subscriber to earth-subscriber toll calls via radio links to an earth station regardless of faults which may occur in satellite channels. A central earth station controls the frequency assignment of the radio link channels used for voice communication. Each of a plurality of subscriber earth stations has at least one voice communication terminal, with means for identifying a call destined for a subscriber at that earth station. The continuity of the channels involved in that call are monitored by periodically transmitting and receiving out-of-band signals on the assigned channel. It appears that there has been a loss of signal when the out-of-band signal does not appear, twice in succession. Then, the channel is released and the toll charges are terminated.Type: GrantFiled: August 1, 1984Date of Patent: October 7, 1986Assignee: NEC CorporationInventors: Mamoru Yamaguchi, Masanori Oshima

Patent number: 4605969Abstract: Low-frequency noise in the video output of a charge-injection-device imager is cancelled by delaying the low-frequency components of video plus noise for one horizontal interval and subtracting therefrom the undelayed noise from corresponding cells of the same row of the imaging matrix. High frequency noise is eliminated in a separate channel by low-level clipping of the high-frequency component of the video signal. The high-frequency video component is delayed for one horizontal interval to align it with the low-frequency video component and the two components are summed to reconstruct the full video signal from which both high-frequency and low frequency noise is absent.Type: GrantFiled: August 21, 1984Date of Patent: August 12, 1986Assignee: General Electric CompanyInventor: Wayne T.
