  • Patent number: 5928669
Abstract: A composition for delivering an active agent to the lymphatic system comprises a plurality of colloidal particles and an active agent associated with each particle, wherein the surface of each particle has a hudrophobicity ratio as defined of less than 10, or wherein a modifying agent is adsorbed onto the surface of each particle such that the modifying agent gives an advancing contact angle as defined of less than 60.degree. or wherein the adsorbed layer thickness as defined is less than 10 nm or the albumin uptake ratio is between 0.2 and 0.5. The composition may satisfy one or more of these requirements. Preferred modifying agents are non-ionic surfactants, in particular block copolymers containing polyethyleneglycol.

  • Patent number: 5885672
Abstract: A package or wrapping comprised of a material in the form of a liquid or a solid which is sensitive to water and oxygen. A coated barrier film is sealed about the material and forms a sealed enclosure about the material and serves to protect the material from water vapor and oxygen. The coated barrier film has low oxygen and water permeability and comprises a flexible substantially transparent plastic substrate with first and second surfaces and a thickness ranging from 1 to 7 mils. A substantially colorless barrier coating is formed on at least one of the surfaces and consists solely of graphite free of hydrogen and has a thickness ranging from 50.ANG. to 300.ANG.. The barrier film has a reduced water transmission rate and a reduced oxygen transmission rate with respect to the uncoated substrate and has a visible transparency of 30% or greater.

  • Patent number: 5840330
Abstract: Process for the preparation of shaped, compressed controlled-release unit-dosage forms from a therapeutic active substance exhibiting a self-retarding release that depends on the magnitude of the force used for the compression. The process gives unit-dosage forms for which the release of the active substance is highly uniform, reproducibly identical and largely linear. To achieve this, the active substance and an additive charge that inhibits or compensates for the self-retardation of its release are processed into particles in the first stage of production, so that the preliminary compressed objects made from these particles without any further additives exhibit a rapid release (in comparison with the required controlled release) over the range of the force of compression envisaged for the production of the unit-dosage form in question, after which the particles are compressed in the second stage of production with a release-retarding agent to obtain the unit-dosage forms.

  • Patent number: 5165934
Abstract: Compositions which contain, as the active ingredients, a combination of heterocyclic compounds of the general formula (I) and organophosphorous compounds, in addition to an amorphous silica additive selected from the class consisting of:(a) an amorphous silica obtained by a process, wherein an amorphous silica hydrate, which has been produced by a wet synthetic, method, is either silylated or heated to effect an etherification so as to decrease the surface silanol radicals of the amorphous silica hydrate, and(b) an anhydrous, amorphous silica obtained by a dry synthetic method, or a silylated derivative thereof, and optionally one or more compounds having a polyethyleneglycol or polypropyleneglycol chain or an ethyleneglycolpropyleneglycol copolymeric chain, or a mixture of these compounds which results in a stabilization of the active ingredients without any adverse influences on the physical properties of the formulations.
