Patent number: 7390418Abstract: A method of cleaning water systems and an oxidizer (e.g., a potassium monopersulfate composition) that is used for the method are presented. When potassium monopersulfate is used as the oxidizer, it preferably has a low concentration (<0.5 wt. %) of potassium oxodisulfate byproduct that causes irritation. The low potassium oxodisulfate concentration allows the composition to be used more liberally than conventional potassium monopersulfate. To control the release rate of the oxidizer, the oxidizer is formed into a tablet and placed in an enclosure. The enclosure has pores such that water enters the enclosure at a controlled rate and dissolves the oxidizer. The oxidizer solution that is generated in the enclosure enters the water system through the pores. Optionally, the composition may also include a layer of coating material either under or over the enclosure that further controls the rate of oxidizer dissolution.Type: GrantFiled: September 28, 2004Date of Patent: June 24, 2008Assignee: Truox, Inc.Inventors: Perry L. Patent number: 7361200Abstract: A cyclone dust separating apparatus and a vacuum cleaner with the same is disclosed. The cyclone dust separating apparatus includes a first cyclone for separating large dust particles from air, a plurality of second cyclones for separating minute dust particles from air via a centrifugal force after dust separation at the first cyclone, and a cover disposed on an upper portion of the first cyclone and the second cyclones. The cover includes a conical guide formed at a lower center to guide air discharged from the first cyclone into the second cyclones. Because drawn-in air is repeatedly cleaned by a plurality of cyclones, the cyclone dust separating apparatus can be provided with a compact structure, can provide an effective cleaning operation, and can prevent deterioration of a suction force.Type: GrantFiled: May 7, 2004Date of Patent: April 22, 2008Assignee: Samsung Gwangju Electronics Co., Ltd.Inventors: Jang-keun Oh, Jung-gyun Han

Patent number: 7311741Abstract: The invention describes a device for separating dust and dirt out of flowing media. A curved flow path (1) is imposed on the flow (21), and heavy foreign bodies are separated out of the main flow by centrifugal force. The partial stream required to carry away the foreign bodies is aftertreated in a filter (11) and returned in purified form. Unlike with conventional filters, which have to process the entire flow of media, pressure losses during the separation of dust are minimized, and on the other hand no medium is lost for removing the dust load.Type: GrantFiled: November 8, 2002Date of Patent: December 25, 2007Assignee: Alstom Technology LtdInventors: Gordon Anderson, Reinhard Fried, Shailendra Naik, Stefan Schlechtriem, Thomas Zierer

Patent number: 7309441Abstract: A method is disclosed, which is capable of subjecting microorganisms to sterilizing or bacteriostatic treatment with good efficiency as compared with the conventional sterilizing or bacteriostatic method using a noble metal electrode. Microorganism-containing water to be treated is electrochemically treated using an anode having conductive diamond to bring the microorganism into contact with the anode, thereby undergoing sterilization. Since the conductive diamond has a high oxidation potential as compared with other electrode substances, direct oxidation reaction due to contact between a microorganism in water to be treated, such as Legionella bacteria, and the anode surface occurs strongly as compared with other electrodes, thereby enabling effective sterilization. The conductive diamond has a high ability to generate ozone and has an excellent formation efficiency with respect to the generation of hydrogen peroxide and radicals. Accordingly, an indirect sterilizing effect can also be expected.Type: GrantFiled: July 21, 2004Date of Patent: December 18, 2007Assignee: Permelec Electrode Ltd.Inventors: Philippe Rychen, Laurent Pupunat, Tsuneto Furuta, Masao Sekimoto, Hozumi Tanaka, Yoshinori Nishiki, Shuhei Wakita

Patent number: 7306640Abstract: A vacuum cleaner includes a first dirt separation unit and a second dirt separation unit. The first dirt separation unit has a first inlet port through which a suction air stream including dirt particles is introduced thereinto, and the second dirt separation unit has a second inlet port through which the air stream introduced into the first dirt separation unit is introduced into the second dirt separation. The first and the second inlet port are disposed such that they are not registered with each other. Accordingly, the dirt particles suctioned are separated in two stages, thereby decreasing the possibility of occlusion of a filter and rapid deterioration of a suction force.Type: GrantFiled: October 23, 2003Date of Patent: December 11, 2007Assignee: Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd.Inventors: Yoshiki Kuroki, Seiji Yamaguchi, Tomonori Kato, Masashi Okushima, Yuichi Shimizu, Tomomi Mitani, Hiroshi Mori, Toru Odachi, Yoshiaki Onishi, Hidenori Kitamura, Toshifumi Miyahara, Takaaki Ogawa, Hirokazu Nagaoka

Patent number: 7303683Abstract: A filter medium capable of removing microorganisms from a fluid such as water. The filter medium includes particles of activated carbon, particles of a substantially insoluble inorganic material having an isoelectric point greater than the fluid being filtered. A low melt index binder, preferably with a melt index of less than about 1 gram per 10 minutes, binds the particles of activated carbon and particles of inorganic material, such that the binder will become tacky at elevated temperatures without becoming sufficiently liquid to substantially wet the particles of activated carbon and inorganic material. An antimicrobial material can be incorporated into the filter to prevent biofilm growth. The use of a biocidal material in combination with the high isoelectric point material provides a trap-and-kill mechanism for microorganism removal.Type: GrantFiled: June 29, 2004Date of Patent: December 4, 2007Assignee: The Clorox CompanyInventor: Scott L. Patent number: 7291193Abstract: A cyclone dust collector and a vacuum cleaner having the same. The cyclone dust collector has a cyclone body shaped to have a relatively wider upper portion and a relatively narrower lower portion and also has a suction port and a discharge port, a grill member connected to the discharge port, a dust receptacle connected to the cyclone body, and a blocking member for partially blocking the grill member. Air drawn in through the suction port moves in an increasingly wider radial path as it travels upwardly to the discharge port, increasing the centrifugal force on suspended particles as they travel toward the discharge port. The shape of the cyclone body prevents turbulent flow from being generated. Dust is prevented by the blocking member from attaching to the grill member before being centrifuged, performance of the grill member is enhanced.Type: GrantFiled: December 6, 2004Date of Patent: November 6, 2007Assignee: Samsung Gwangju Electronics Co., Ltd.Inventors: Jang-keun Oh, Yong seok Heo

Patent number: 7276098Abstract: A tangential air filter configuration is designed for applications where there is a potential for a pollutant to back flush out. The tangential in-line air filter reduces air resistance and prevents back flow, allowing the air to traverse through a forced air system during operation without resistance, and absorbs particulates and prevents back flow of fuel vapors when the forced air is at a standstill. The filter medium has a plurality of pleats or corrugations with a longitudinal axis parallel to the forced airflow direction. A diffusion barrier is formed when the forced air is at a standstill. Vapors are not passed or forced through the filter medium; rather pollutants are aggressively absorbed during diffusion.Type: GrantFiled: October 15, 2004Date of Patent: October 2, 2007Assignee: KX Technologies, LLCInventor: Evan E.
