  • Patent number: 4065938
Abstract: An air-conditioning apparatus of the reversible heat pump type includes a booster heat exchanger for the refrigerant gas. The booster heat exchanger receives refrigerant from or in parallel with the evaporator or outdoor coil during the heating mode of operation and adds additional superheat to the gas by exposing it to convective or radiant ambient heat, or both. A temperature sensitive valve controls flow through the booster heat exchanger to the compressor of the apparatus, to prevent compressor damage due to excessive suction temperature. The booster is automatically shunted out of the refrigerant flow line when the apparatus is operating in the cooling mode, to control the load on the compressor and ensure proper operation during cooling. Substantial increases in operating efficiency are obtained.

  • Patent number: 4023557
Abstract: Low cost solar collector panel utilizes surface mounted tubing in which the inner wall portion of the tubing is copper to permit the use of untreated water in the system. The outer wall portion of the tubing is aluminum which provides additional strength and is easily attached to a low cost aluminum absorber plate. A method of producing the composite aluminum-copper tubing in long length coils is disclosed. The tubing can also be formed into connectors for connecting copper and aluminum tubing together.

  • Patent number: 4005697
Abstract: A gas cook top having plural burners and an electric ignition system in which a single glow coil ignites a pilot at the end of a rotating tube. The tube sweeps successively by the coil and the burners to produce the pilot flame and apply the same to ignite the burner or burners turned on for use. Igniter energization and pilot rotation is responsive to and coincident with any burner on condition, with burner valve actuation controlling the coil, tube drive, and a pilot valve for the latter.

  • Patent number: 3970419
Abstract: A method and apparatus for forming hollow objects of moldable organic plastic material by providing a parison on a blow core, locating said blow core bearing said parison in a blow mold, expanding said parison within said blow mold, separating said expanded parison from said core while the parison remains in said blow mold and transferring said expanded parison from said blow core within said blow mold to another core and/or blow mold. In a preferred embodiment, a plurality of cores and molds are employed to provide an extended cooling sequence for the final article.

  • Patent number: 3960472
Abstract: A method and assembly for forming the bell end of a bell and spigot joint connecting two pipes together are disclosed herein. The method, which also includes the formation of an inner circumferential groove in the bell end, utilizes a core section in forming the bell end and an adjacent groove forming arrangement in forming the inner circumferential groove. The groove forming arrangement comprises a plurality of core segments which cooperatively move in a plane perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the bell forming core section between an expanded position to form the groove and a collapsed position for removing the ultimately formed bell end from the core and core segments. With the core segments in the collapsed or expanded position, an end section of a heat deformable pipe, heated to its deformable state, is contoured around the core section and core segments. Thereafter, the core segments, if initially collapsed, are moved to the expanded position.
