  • Patent number: 11101876
Abstract: A smart satellite system is capable of decision making and prioritization on the fly to optimize the use of downlink bandwidth to deliver prioritized data based upon opportunity and the resources of available payloads. By providing a satellite system with substantial processing power and a level of autonomy, the satellite is able to make decisions about capturing imagery data, including image data processing, object detection, image segmentation, and re-orientation of the satellite based upon the opportunity, from the satellite's perspective, for capturing image data of areas or objects of interest. Through the use of machine learning and in-orbit image analysis, the satellite may transmit only a subset of the captured images, portions of the captured images, or the result of image analysis, thereby efficiently using the downlink communication channel.

  • Patent number: 11089387
Abstract: Computer-implemented systems and methods of providing content to a user via communications between a content provider and a user over a plurality of disparate communication channels are provided. Content is provided to a user via a first transmission channel for presentation. Metadata associated with the content identifies a content event trigger at a point in the content. The content is displayed using a first presentation system. When the content event trigger is reached, supplemental content is provided to the user via a second transmission channel. The supplemental content is provided to the user during continued presentation of the content, and the supplemental content is provided to the user using a content providing system that is wholly separate from the first presentation system.

  • Patent number: 11070877
Abstract: Systems and methods for detecting a conflict between viewing selections of two users. In some aspects, the method comprises generating for display a first media asset on a user equipment device, receiving a second request from a second user to generate for display a second media asset on the user equipment device, determining a first priority and a second priority associated with the first user and the second user, and based on determining that a first scheduled time period of the first media asset and a second scheduled time period of the first media asset overlap and the first priority is higher than the second priority, generating for display on the user equipment device an indication of a conflict between the first request and the second request.

  • Patent number: 11064151
Abstract: An image processing unit identifies the shape of an obstacle that is identified from an area that appears in a peripheral image based on an image captured by a camera. The shape of the obstacle includes at least a tilt of a section of the obstacle in a road-surface direction. The section of the obstacle faces a vehicle. The image processing unit generates a superimposed image in which a mark image that is generated as a pattern that indicates the identified obstacle is superimposed onto a position that corresponds to the obstacle in the peripheral image. At this time, the image processing unit variably changes properties of the mark image based on the tilt of the obstacle identified by an obstacle identifying unit. The image processing unit then displays the generated superimposed image on display apparatus.

  • Patent number: 10992990
Abstract: Methods and apparatuses for presenting menus to DVR users and users of other media playback devices are described. After a DVR (or other media device) has finished playing a recorded television program (or other content), or in response to other specified events, the DVR presents a screen which comprises a menu. In addition to or in alternative to “save” and “delete” options, the menu comprises one or more options. Each of these other options may correspond to a separate item. For example, a user's selection of such an option may cause the DVR to display or play certain content on the user's television set. Additionally, or alternatively, these other options, when selected by a user, may cause the DVR to display a user interface through which the user can actually interact with content, such as an item that was featured or referenced in the television program that the user was just watching.

  • Patent number: 10983984
Abstract: Provided are methods, devices, and computer-program products for determining an accuracy score for a device mapping system. In some examples, the accuracy score can be based on a device map of the device mapping system and viewing data from an automated content recognition component. In such examples, the accuracy score can indicate whether the device mapping system is assigning similar categories to devices that have similar player of media content. In some examples, a device map can be determined to be random, indicating that the device mapping system is inaccurate. In contrast, if the device map is determined to have a sufficiently low probability of being merely random in nature, the device mapping system can be determined to be accurate.

Abstract: One embodiment of the present invention sets forth a technique for adapting playback bit rate in a content delivery system based on scene complexity of the video content as well as network conditions and other performance factors. A scene complexity map of the video content indicates the complexity levels of different scenes within the video content. Using the scene complexity map, a content player may download scenes of lower scene complexity levels from video streams encoded to lower bit rates to manage the bandwidth consumed to download the video content and allow for the downloading of scenes of higher complexity levels from video streams encoded to higher bit rates.
