  • Patent number: 4486473
Abstract: A massive article is coated by chemical vapor deposition in a chamber having a horizontal cross-sectional configuration generally matched to the horizontal cross-sectional configuration of the article. For an article which is relatively thin between a pair of opposed faces so that the article is subject to breakage by the force of surging particles of a fluidized particle bed, breakage is reduced in a coating chamber having vertical sidewalls that generally parallel the faces of the article and relatively narrow endwalls. The article is centered in the chamber with its faces parallel to the sidewalls leaving a region between the faces that accommodates an adequate flow of carrier gas and coating vapor without requiring a large charge of particles that would create undue surging force against the article.

  • Patent number: 4484538
Abstract: A novel apparatus for forming depletion-free uniform thickness CVD thin-film on semiconductor wafers includes a diffusion furnace, a boat loader coupled to the furnace for loading and removing a batch of semiconductor wafers into and out of the furnace, and a semiconductor wafer support boat for removably retaining a plurality of vertically oriented semiconductor wafers on the boat. The boat includes supporting surfaces so arranged that depletion-free uniform thickness thin-film is provided on both sides of each of the vertically oriented wafers. The semiconductor wafer support boat preferably includes two laterally spaced elongated rails each having an undulatory longitudinal section defining plural ridge portions spaced apart by plural valley portions. The ridges on one of the rails are provided with transverse slots that cooperate with confronting transverse slots provided on the confronting ridge portions on the other one of the rails to define a plurality of wafer edge receiving channels.

  • Patent number: 4481235
Abstract: A method and apparatus for manufacturing tape-shaped silicon bodies for solar cells wherein a tape-shaped reticulate carrier is passed vertically downwardly through a drawing nozzle including a slot which is full of molten silicon. The drawing nozzle is located above the level of molten silicon in a vat containing such molten silicon, and capillary means are provided to deliver the molten silicon from the vat into the drawing nozzle to fill the same with the molten silicon.

  • Patent number: 4480582
Abstract: An improvement in the type of apparatus for applying adhesive to sheet materials wherein the sheet material is fed between a feed roller and an adhesive coated coating roller, and stripping elements thereafter strip the adhesive coated sheet material from the coating roller. The improvement comprises a main support mounted for rotation about the axis of the cleaning roller, the feed roller and the stripping elements being mounted on the main support for rotation therewith from an operating position to a cleaning position.

  • Patent number: 4471713
Abstract: Floor treating apparatus, principally for waxing floors includes a drip pan to catch wax from the applicator pad when the applicator head is in a retracted position. A piston pump has an adjustable variable stroke to provide selection of the quantity of wax to be deposited. Slotted connections between the applicator head and the supporting arms provide independent vertical movement of each end of the applicator pad to enable the pad to conform to uneven floors.

  • Patent number: 4465015
Abstract: A device for spreading a substance onto a moving web of material, which comprises an extrusion head and a rotating bar which is carried by a support member applied to the extrusion head near the outlet of a delivery slit. This latter has an inner profiled recess in which engage limiting blade segments which extend up to the outlet of the delivery slit in order to laterally limit the regions in which spreading is carried out. The rotating bar has its outer surface operatively contacting the web only in the regions in which the substance is spread, and it is recessed or interrupted where no spreading is wanted. This device allows to spread a substance onto a width of web reduced with respect to the width of the extrusion head, or even onto separate strips of the web.

  • Patent number: 4465017
Abstract: A seed coating machine comprising an upper mixing drum wherein a liquid adhesive coating is applied to seed and where the rate of application is regulated by a valve controlled by the seed feeder. Coated seed is dried to a state of tackiness and passed to a second, lower mixing drum. A variety of powders are applied onto the tacky seed after being mixed and sifted in a screen distributor. The resulting coated seed has an outer powder layer which adheres to the inner adhesive coating.
