Abstract: A method and apparatus for testing the vascular condition of a patient including applying a pulsatile waveform to a part of a patient's body, observing the resultant blood flow at a location spaced from the point of application, and comparing the observed waveform with the applied waveform. In one aspect, the method and apparatus are used to assess a patient's suitability for femorodistal by-pass surgery. In another aspect, the method and apparatus are used to determine the patency calf arteries in a patient.
