  • Patent number: 8407140
Abstract: The invention provides a remittance platform in which an enterprise, such as Wells Fargo, serves as a remittance transfer agent, where the remittance function is integrated with a bank. The invention allows access to the remittance program by both account holders with the enterprise and persons who do not have an account with the enterprise. The person accessing the service may pick the remittance service they want and the country they want. However, the service is not anchored to a particular account and can therefore work with both bank partners and non-bank partners and account holders and non-account holders. Further, the system may be private-labeled. Additionally, the invention provides a mechanism that allows one to send money easily to other countries and it allows bank partners to participate in the program easily as well. This is possible because the enterprise provides all of the processing in an integrated fashion.

  • Patent number: 8396787
Abstract: Presented is a method for calculating and distributing quoting share revenue to exchange members that contribute quote data to market data feeds. First, the method reads in trading data chronologically for a particular day. Using an object oriented framework, the method divides the symbols and orders into groups of objects to facilitate the tracking of the total price, quantity, and seconds displayed for each symbol. The timestamp of each message is read and the seconds field is parsed ignoring fractional seconds. Credits are awarded for each second the quote is displayed at the National Best Bid/Offer (“NBBO”) by multiplying the price, quantity, and elapsed whole seconds. These quote credits are stored by the system for each member and symbol. Members are eligible to earn quote credits on either the bid or the offer or both at the same time.

  • Patent number: 8386369
Abstract: A computer-implemented method for determining an optimal award schedule for satisfaction of energy efficiency and energy supply requirements for a portfolio of one or more buildings. A first auction is conducted so as to receive over a computer network, from one or more prospective efficiency suppliers, a plurality of first bids for the provision of energy efficiency, each such first bid specifying an amount of energy saved and a cost. A computer is used to determine a schedule of remaining portfolio energy supply requirements that would remain after the provision of energy efficiency from at least a plurality of the first bids. A second auction is then run so as to receive over the computer network, from one or more prospective energy suppliers, one or more second bids for a plurality of the remaining portfolio energy supply requirements, each such second bid specifying a cost.

  • Patent number: 8346646
Abstract: A financial market replicator, simulator, and trainer/annotator (FMRS) intermixes and records data streams of real time financial market data from a variety of sources. The FMRS replays such recorded data to simulate the real time financial market(s) in a manner that represents substantially the entirety of information relating to the financial market(s) such that an observer would have difficulty differentiating between the simulator playback of the data and real time data. A user may employ the playback of the recorded market data stream as a research and training tool for developing and executing trading strategies. For example, a user may input simulated trades of securities to test a trading strategy. The simulator would apply those trades to the recorded data to generate simulated trades and simulated profit and loss results. A user may then determine if the trading strategy would have been successful.

  • Patent number: 8341084
Abstract: A card holder carries out an initial top-up of a balance of a pre-paid payment card. The prepaid payment card is configured for use in an infrastructure in accordance with a payment specification requiring different behavior for normal transactions in the infrastructure versus that required for topping-up of the balance. Contemporaneously with the initial top-up, the card holder registers risk mitigation information in association with the pre-paid payment card. Subsequent to the initial top-up, an indicator is written to the pre-paid payment card during a transaction with the pre-paid payment card outside the infrastructure. The indicator identifies the pre-paid payment card as having the risk mitigation information associated therewith. During subsequent presentation of the pre-paid payment card to the infrastructure, the pre-paid payment card is treated as a token backed up by the risk mitigation information, based on presence of the indicator on the pre-paid payment card.

  • Patent number: 8332245
Abstract: An insurance company sells a life insurance policy having a coverage period. The policy provides a total benefit amount which includes an all-cause benefit amount and an accidental death only benefit amount. The policy is initially underwritten on a limited basis and the ratio of the all-cause benefit to the accidental death benefit is low. The insured has the option of providing material to enable comprehensive underwriting and to enable risk classification. If the risk classification improves the policy benefits, the mix of coverage is adjusted to include a higher ratio of the all-cause benefit amount to the accidental death only benefit amount. If the insured does not provide any additional information or materials, or if the materials provided do not result in an underwritten risk classification that enables the policy provisions to be improved, the mix of coverage remains unchanged.
