Patent number: 3949211Abstract: Outdoor lighting fixture utilizes lamp ballast which includes both solid-state control circuitry and a relatively massive inductor ballast. The solid-state control circuitry is mounted in a separate housing, such as the photocontrol housing, which is affixed to the exterior of the fixture by means of a plug-type receptacle, and the relatively massive inductor portion of the ballast is contained within the fixture body. Those portions of the solid-state control circuitry which require cooling use the separate housing as a heat sink. If troubles are encountered in the solid-state circuitry, the entire circuit can be replaced simply by plugging in a new unit.Type: GrantFiled: June 21, 1974Date of Patent: April 6, 1976Assignee: Westinghouse Electric CorporationInventor: Robert T. Patent number: 3947107Abstract: An active crossmixer comprising a pair of rotatably driven augers and a baffle for partially submerging the augers in developer is mounted in the development system of an electrostatic processor above the sump in a position to intercept the developer returning from the development zone and any additional toner added to maintain the toner concentration at a suitable high level. The developer is divided between the augers which, in turn, laterally transport the developer in opposite directions. Preferably, the baffle is apertured so that developer not only flows over the ends of the baffle but also through the baffle, thereby distributing the developer across the full width of the sump.Type: GrantFiled: November 20, 1974Date of Patent: March 30, 1976Assignee: Xerox CorporationInventor: Richard E. Patent number: 3947678Abstract: A fluorescent lantern includes a tubular extruded body portion closed with two covers at the respective opposite ends, one of which is removably mounted. A planar reflector, which extends along the length of the enclosure proximate to a curved side in the form of a lens, includes a tab at one end thereof to which the collector tab of an output transistor is mounted, the reflector tab acting as a heat sink for maintaining the output transistor at a low operating temperature. A fluorescent bulb extends along the length of the enclosure and is disposed between the curved lens and the reflector to enhance the amount of light transmitted through the lens. Electrical terminals and a switch are connectable to a source of direct voltage, either external or to batteries housed within the enclosure, and a circuit is disposed within the enclosure for converting the direct voltage into an alternating voltage suitable for energizing the fluorescent bulb when applied across the latter.Type: GrantFiled: October 15, 1974Date of Patent: March 30, 1976Inventor: Wing-Hing Herbert Tang

Patent number: 3947113Abstract: An improved apparatus is disclosed for transferring toner from the surface of a toner-bearing drum, such as a xerographic drum, to a support medium for the toner, such as plain paper. The improvement relates to apparatus of the type which employs a transfer web or belt to remove toner from the toner-bearing drum and to transfer it to a support medium. In such apparatus, it is typical for the transfer web to be at least partially driven by means of its contact with the toner-bearing drum and/or transfer rollers. The improvement described herein comprises providing means for simultaneously disengaging the toner-bearing drum and at least one of the transfer rollers from the transfer web at least once per web cycle, and also providing means for mechanically correcting web alignment and registration while the toner-bearing drum and transfer roller are disengaged. Suitable means for disengaging the toner-bearing drum and transfer roller include the provision of indented surfaces on the drum and transfer roller.Type: GrantFiled: January 20, 1975Date of Patent: March 30, 1976Assignee: Itek CorporationInventors: William Raymond Buchan, James A. Patent number: 3946410Abstract: A capacitor-energized electromagnetic trigger device controls the energization of a camera motor which drives a film transport and shutter mechanism. For one-frame photography the motor is de-energized after a predetermined number of revolutions and then the transport and shutter mechanism is immobilized by a restraining device. For continuous photography the motor continues to operate and the restraining device is maintained ineffective. For repetitive one-frame photography, the capacitor is recharged after a one-frame cycle and the cycle is repeated. Embodiments are disclosed having different types of switching circuits, including different arrangements of transistor switches, SCR switches, mode selection switches, reset switches, and starting and holding coils.Type: GrantFiled: July 19, 1974Date of Patent: March 23, 1976Assignee: Nippon Kogaku K.K.Inventor: Osamu Maida

Patent number: 3945724Abstract: A system employing at least one separation roller continuously contacting the outside surface of a web and tracked to move in a fixed approximately elliptical path for compensating for web motion during separation of the web from another surface to enable a bead of accumulated material built up at the line of contact between the web and the other surface to pass therebetween without changing the web velocity. In a preferred embodiment, the system is employed in photoelectrophoretic imaging to bypass a bead of imaging suspension built up at the imaging nip during separation of two webs immediately after completion of imaging to thereby permit dissipation or passage of the liquid bead without changing the advancing web velocity.Type: GrantFiled: June 4, 1974Date of Patent: March 23, 1976Assignee: Xerox CorporationInventor: Earl V. Patent number: 3942888Abstract: A biased roller electrostatographic image transfer system in which the diameter of a resilient bias transfer roll is slightly larger at its outer end areas in comparison to its central copy sheet engaging area, so that the majority of the roll loading pressure is absorbed by these larger diameter end steps, which roll directly against the imaging surface outside of the copy area, and so that a relatively lower roll pressure is provided against the copy sheet in the operating nip. This reduction in the mechanical pressure in the transfer nip can provide lower "hollow character" transfer defects, yet allows a sufficiently high roller loading force to prevent roll bounce and vibration.Type: GrantFiled: February 6, 1975Date of Patent: March 9, 1976Assignee: Xerox CorporationInventors: John Maksymiak, Daniel S. Patent number: 3937571Abstract: An electrophotographic system is described in which a photoconductive ion modulator screen is used in conjunction with an anodized aluminum dielectric imaging surface. This combination enables the steps of image transfer and fixing to be carried out simultaneously without destroying the latent image produced on the dielectric imaging surface.A duplex anodized aluminum coating is prepared by forming a porous aluminum oxide layer by electrolytically oxidizing an aluminum surface and thereafter continuing the electrolytic oxidation under conditions which produce a barrier type aluminum oxide layer. The resulting duplex anodized aluminum coating containing both porous type aluminum oxide and barrier type aluminum oxide is used as the dielectric imaging surface in this electrophotographic system.Type: GrantFiled: December 11, 1974Date of Patent: February 10, 1976Assignee: Addressograph-Multigraph CorporationInventors: Gerald A. Patent number: 3938169Abstract: An electric shutter having a shutter release stop device that detects the absence of cocking of the shutter and that an electromagnet in the exposure control circuit of the shutter is not properly energized either because the battery is ineffective because it is expended or improperly connected in the circuit or not in the circuit. Detecting means initiates the action of a lock lever or bar that engages the camera shutter release lever and locks it so that it cannot be completely depressed for taking of an exposure. The taking of a photographic exposure is accordingly precluded and the waste of power and film is avoided.Type: GrantFiled: April 10, 1974Date of Patent: February 10, 1976Assignee: Seiko Koki Kabushiki KaishaInventor: Kiyoshi Kitai
