  • Patent number: 4632289
Abstract: There is disclosed a collapsible load carrier for the roof of a hardtop motor vehicle. This carrier comprises an open frame defining a flooring, two end walls, and two side walls. Securing members releasably connect the frame to the roof of the car and are mounted to the end walls of the rack. The flooring is spaced from the roof, because the securing members extend downwardly below the level of the flooring. Each side wall is made of two sections interconnected by hinge members at the rack center. These hinge members enable the collapse of the side walls against the end walls, inwardly thereof. The flooring consists of two sections, each formed by spaced transverse rods which are rotatively interconnected by pairs of transversely-offset band-like rigid links. The sections are releasably interconnected at the center of the carrier and can be collapsed against the respective end walls.

  • Patent number: 4627558
Abstract: An ambidextrious military type holster designed for belt, leg, chest or shoulder carrying with or without a flap. The holster employs a layered body with the outer two layers defining pairs of horizontally disposed and vertically disposed slots on each major face of the holster adapted to receive a belt on either side through the horizontally disposed pairs of slots or a clip through the vertically disposed pairs of slots. The flap may be secured by the clip and includes an extensible strap and hook for securing the flap to the holster body by one of the slots. The clip includes a generally planar body defining a pair of facing opening catches at one end and a hinge at the opposite end. A resilient member forms the hinge pin of the hinge and includes a pair of resilient legs which are pivotal over the generally planar body and includes knee portions which engage the catches and define a belt or strap slot with the body. An extender strap allows the holster to be used as a leg holster.

  • Patent number: 4620653
Abstract: The holder comprises an adjustable belt sized to be securely but comfortably affixed about the waist of a person engaging in vigorous athletic activity. Affixed to the belt is a pocket having an inner pocket or sleeve adjustable to tightly retain a stereo player therein and thereby prevent the player from inadvertently falling or bouncing out of the pocket. The sleeve is adjustably fastened with a tongue that extends through an aperture in the back of the pocket and belt. The aperture is positioned in the pocket back to best prevent movement of the stereo player relative to the pocket and the belt by pulling the player to the back of the pocket rather than completely enfolding the player in the sleeve. Thus, the object of preventing movement of the player relative to the wearer is better attained. Hook and loop fasteners join the tongue to the back of the belt. The belt includes a plurality of hook and loop fasteners spaced along a portion of the belt extending to one side of the pocket.

  • Patent number: 4618083
Abstract: A vehicle rack having frame members and a clamping device for securing a ladder to the frame members. The clamping device comprises a first clamp rigidly connected to one frame member to receive one of the rungs of the ladder, and a second clamp for engaging another rung of the ladder. The second clamp is rigidly connected to a rotatable rod to which a handle as connected. A link is provided for interconnecting the rod and a spring, the arrangement of the link and the member being such that the second clamp is biased alternatively in the engaged and disengaged positions so that moving the handle in one direction will cause the second clamp to engage a rung of the ladder, the second clamp being urged in the engaged position by the spring. While moving the handle in the other direction will cause the second clamp to disengage, the spring then urging the second clamp in the disengaged position.

  • Patent number: 4616771
Abstract: Four roll-formed slats attached to a vehicle top or rear deck have external tracks formed along their opposite edges. Two brackets slidably engage the external tracks of each slat, and lock at any point along the slat by means of an intermediate clamping plate. The clamping plates are shaped to permit application of clamping force without marring a plastic trim strip which is along the center of the slat. The brackets on the inboard slats carry retractable luggage stops, and those on the outboard slats carry tie-down loops. The outboard brackets are also adapted for attachment of crossbars, spanning the outboard slats, but only at certain discrete positions along the slats. Crossbar accessories facilitate securing bicycles, skis or other special articles to the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 4613067
Abstract: A gun sling in the nature of an elongated, flexible strap, worn over one shoulder of the user, has a front end portion which depends from the shoulder and is provided with a buttonhole for coupling with a stud mounted on the gun. A rear end portion of the strap extends downwardly at an angle from the shoulder along the back of the torso to a waistbelt worn by the user. A ring connected to the rear portion receives an S-clip which hooks over the waistbelt. Consequently, the shotgun in the carrying position is supported substantially by the strap yet may be easily and rapidly shifted to a firing position wherein the strap hangs in loose, non-binding relationship to the gun without detachment therefrom.

  • Patent number: 4606484
Abstract: A tool holding device for persons with limited hand mobility has complementary tool handles and socket of cylindrical or conical form. The socket is integral with a rotatable part and may have an upper open section above the socket diameter permitting tools to be snapped into rotatable relationship with the socket. The rotatable base for the socket is surrounded by an annular fixed housing, and housing and socket base have complementary facing O-ring grooves above which the housing has a locating flange turned inward over the rotatable socket base. The O-ring locates the parts and provides frictional holding force while allowing snap-out snap-in disassembly for cleaning. A strap through the fixed rim retains the parts in assembly and has hook and loop or other easily fastened fasteners for securing the unit to the hand or other limb of the user.

  • Patent number: 4605143
Abstract: The present invention is an article holding device for attaching external loads to a packframe. It consists of upper and lower clamp assemblies adapted for attachment to adjacent transverse packframe members. A rod, oriented vertically when the packframe is being worn, is held between the clamp assemblies. At least one, preferably two, strap retainers are mounted on the rod. These will normally have freedom of rotational and vertical movement. A strap or similar load retaining member passes through the slots of the retainers. Arranged thus, a load can be held tightly and securely against the packframe. In the preferred form of use, two of the assemblies are mounted side-by-side so that at least two straps may be placed around the external load.

  • Patent number: 4600134
Abstract: Dual carrying pouch for carriage of mail, packages, magazines, newspapers, or the like, consisting of two opposing pouches or bags suspended by belts, straps, or harnesses, the harnesses including shoulder straps and waist belts. Padded shoulder straps are adjustable vertically in the forward frontal area, as well as in the rear back area, by adjustable buckles, common straps or webbing adjusters, and provides for lateral adjustment of the forward lower ends of the shoulder straps through a pectoral belt, buckle adjuster, and shock snubber. Adjustable hip pads secure to the dual carrying pouches and include a front tensioning belt, front adjustable buckle, and a rear back tensioning belt and adjuster. Shoulder harnesses and waist belts act together or independently of each other to provide for load distributions equally upon user's shoulders and hips or similarly so as to distribute load weights solely upon user's shoulders or hips, as desired, by adjustment of the belts and adjuster buckles.

  • Patent number: 4596347
Abstract: A rear mounted utility box with a dumping pivot for a lawn and garden tractor is disclosed. A removable housing rests on a horizontal U member of a frame. A vertical plate for attachment of the frame to a yoke is mounted on one of its faces to the U's crossbar. There is a backward extending bracket attached at generally a right angle to the plate's lower edge. A pair of struts, one each spanning from generally the free end of each U member's legs to the bracket supports and stabilizes the frame. A mounting yoke with two arms is attached to the plate's other face at the plate's upper edge. One arm is connected to the tractor's frame generally beneath the tractor's seat, and the other arm serves as a stop for the housing. There is a pivot pin and pivot seat, a lock for releasably locking the housing to the frame, and a stop to limit the pivot. When the lock is released, the housing is free to pivot through the pivot seat until limited by the stop, thereby placing the housing in a dumping mode.
