Abstract: A culinary article for turning over foods such as eggs, without flipping them, has a spatula section to pick up the food, a curved surface over which the food next slides to partially turn it over, an opposing, coacting curved surface which receives the food and completes the reversal action as the food slides therealong, and a delivery surface.
Abstract: An apparatus for extracting juice from citrus fruits comprising a feeding conveyor for conveying the whole fruits to a cutting device, which cuts the fruits into halves. The fruit halves are fed into a squeezing tunnel with their cut surface oriented in a predetermined direction. The squeezing tunnel consist of two opposed surfaces which converge towards one another, thus effecting the squeezing of the fruit halves which are caused to travel therealong. One of the said surfaces is a portion of a rotating drum conveyor, while the other surface comprises a plurality of consecutive parallel rotating rollers arranged transversely with respect to the direction of travel of the fruit halves, and rotating at a peripheral speed which is higher than the speed of the drum conveyor. The rotating rollers are screw threaded with alternating right and left screw threads, or each rotating roller is provided with contiguous right and left screw threaded portions.
Abstract: The apparatus comprises a foaming cylinder containing a foaming chamber into which a liquid foaming agent is discharged through a small orifice. The chamber is closed at one end by three, aligned discs having therethrough a plurality of axially extending openings which connect the foaming chamber to a venturi. Compressed air, which also enters the foaming chamber with the foaming agent, forces the liquid through the openings in the discs to the venturi section. The openings in the center disc are angularly offset from the openings in the two outer discs, so that the discs form a maze through which the foamed liquid passes from the foaming chamber to the venturi. The venturi feeds the foamed liquid to a mixing chamber into which a resin is introduced under pressure through a spinner and orifice so that the foamed liquid is completely mixed with the resin before being discharged as a foamed plastic.
Abstract: A preselected volume of a liquified cooking medium is supplied to a continuous-flow system serving a cooking chamber. In the course of heating the supplied cooking medium prior to the cooking cycle, an overflow device is operative to remove that volume of the thus expanded cooking medium in excess of the preselected volume. On commencement of the cooking cycle, the overflow device is rendered inoperative.
Abstract: An improved storage apparatus for produce stored in an enclosed storage structure. The apparatus provides a cooled airstream having a relative humidity above 95% which is forced around the produce. Water is pressurized by a pump and sprayed into the airstream to create a mist which cools and humidifies the airstream. Chemicals to retard spoilage of the produce can also be included in the water. The water may also be sprayed directly on the produce. Savings are realized and water accumulation in the storage structure is minimized by recirculating condensate from the air distribution system through the spray apparatus. Prolonged equipment life is also obtained by locating the motor for the pump exteriorly of the water spray.

Abstract: A device which raises liquid food from a container and drops it through circulating smoke back into the container to impart a smoke flavor to the liquid. A pump or conveyor draws the liquid from the bottom of the container and forces it upwardly through a vertical conduit which terminates at its top end in a flared outlet located well above the container. An adjustable hood surrounds the conduit outlet to deflect the liquid back into the container without spilling. Conical baffles mounted on the conduit serve to deflect the liquid and increase its exposure time to the smoke.
Abstract: A method of mixing and kneading control of a rubber kneader comprising the steps of detecting the plasticity of a rubber raw material after the rubber raw material and additives are put into a receptacle of the rubber kneader, and controlling total energy spent by the electric motor of the rubber kneader and total revolutions of a mixing and kneading rotor of the rubber kneader in correspondence with the detected plasticity of the rubber raw material.
Abstract: A container for liquids or solids carried in liquids has a rigid upper portion and a flexible lower portion. The rigid upper portion is mounted on and supported by a frame. The flexible lower portion is surrounded by a closed chamber which may, under certain circumstances also surround the rigid upper portion, whereby the contents of the container may be subjected to one or another of a variety of conditions such, for example, as being subjected to a vacuum or negative air pressure, a positive air pressure, a controlled atmosphere such as a selected gas, or a bath of treated liquid such as a washing solution. A wobble plate on the flexible lower portion is set in motion by an electric motor, the drive of which extends through the closed chamber of the flexible lower portion, thereby to agitate the contents under controlled conditions.
Abstract: Horizontal rolls define troughs between them for reception and support of whole citrus fruit, each roll including a plurality of thin metal rings mounted in axially spaced relationship, each ring having a continuous series of pointed teeth on its periphery, and each ring being inclined to its rotary axis whereby rotary movement of the rings causes wobble movement of the disk peripheries so that penetration of the teeth is substantially uniform over the entire outer surface of each fruit. The rolls are turned in the same direction, each successive roll in a series turning at a slower speed. Washers are positioned between each pair of toothed rings and are free to move radially to prevent buildup of seeds, buttons, pieces of peel or other foreign matter on the toothed rings.

Abstract: A utensil for cracking eggs comprising tongs having oppositely disposed handles pivotally attached to each other having a gripping end, and eggshell-cracking and separating members formed at the opposite distal end thereof, the pivot connection of the handles being positioned intermediate the ends thereof and provided with a biasing spring to keep the cracking and separating members in a closed abutting relationship. An egg is positioned within adjacent supporting rings which are flexibly connected to respective handles so as to be opened together with the separating members, after the egg is cracked, by applying force against the cracking member.
Abstract: A head for mixing and discharging at least two ingredients comprising distributor valves to mix the products, each valve having a stem associated with a lever pivoted to be controlled by a rod which cooperates with a cam ramp carried by a sliding member capable of being displaced within the head and the slide member being movable to stop distribution of the mixed product and recycle the ingredients into their separate storage reservoirs, the machine being particularly useful in connection with the making of polyurethane.
Abstract: An apparatus and method for continuously peeling vegetables and fruits in large quantities. The apparatus includes a support structure with a housing rotatably mounted thereon, the housing having a plurality of closely spaced-apart, rotating abrading spindles mounted thereon forming an enclosed cage. Rotation of the cage at a sufficient rate accelerates produce items engaging the spindles into generally circular orbits at a speed which results in the produce items being held against the rotating spindles by centrifugal force. The centrifugal force generated by the rotation of the cage also urges peelings outwardly of the cage between the spindles for discharge. A finger drum is rotatably mounted on said support structure within the cage and has a plurality of flexible fingers thereon adapted to engage produce items as they move from a feed end to a discharge end of the housing. Rotation of the finger drum causes the fingers to urge the produce items into initial engagement with the spindles.
