Abstract: A machine for exercising or testing the lumbar muscles of the human body. The machine has a movement arm pivotable about a horizontal axis through forces exerted by said muscles while the subject is seated with his pelvis restrained against movement and with his back engaging a resistance pad. The rear of the pelvis engages a pelvic pad which is movable to detect any unwanted movement of the pelvis during the exercise. The resistance pad is movable relative to the movement arm to enable measurement of the effective lever arm of the moment applied to the movement arm by the subject. On one side of the movement arm is a mechanism for connecting the movement arm to a weight stack to impose a predetermined yieldable resistance to the movement arm. This mechanism also is adjustable to vary the range of movement of the movement arm during exercise or to place the movement arm into various angular fixed positions for testing the static strength of the muscles at those positions.

Abstract: Arm exercise apparatus comprising a frame, at least one weight, and mechanism for vertically moving the weight between a lowered position and an elevated position including a handle rotatable in either direction, a cable mechanism coupled between the handle and the weight to move the weight between a lowered rested position and an elevated position regardless of which direction the handle is rotated.

Abstract: An apparatus is disclosed for practicing arm wrestling. A handle is provided for a wrestler's primary wrestling hand. The handle is mounted on a base plate which accommodates adjusting its length to suit the wrestler. A spring resists displacement of the handle by the wrestler. The spring may be a plurality of tension springs or it may comprise a helical spring mounted about the handle. Push bars, a near one on the wrestler's side of the handle and a far one on the side of the handle remote from the wrestler, and both adjustably connectable to the base plate, allow adjustment of the apparatus to accommodate various sizes and shapes of wrestlers. A saddle is adjustably positionable on the base plate for receiving the wrestler's elbow of his primary wrestling arm. The near push bar is provided with a grip for grasping by the wrestler's secondary hand, and a pad is provided on the near push bar to protect the wrestler's primary wrestling hand coming down.

Abstract: An exercise machine has multiple stations at each of which two or more exercises are performed in opposition to a selected amount of weight in a weight stack. A cable and pulley system connects the exercise apparatus at the exercise stations with the weight stack in such a manner that only one pull cable in the system is connected to the weight stack.

Abstract: Planar portable weights are formed of a heavy material in the shape of the letter "C" with a central portion having a reverse curve. The turned up ends each provide a hand-hold, and the central portion provides a third hand-hold so that the weight can be used for a variety of exercise maneuvers including two-handed isometrics. The weight is also adapted for engaging the lower legs for leg lifts. The weights have a planar configuration so that multiple weights may be held in one hand. The flat shape also facilitates packing and shipping.

Abstract: A home gym system (100) is provided for performing weight lifting exercises with a load resistance (160, 164) coupled to a cable (132). The home gym system (100) includes a main frame (110) to which is pivotedly coupled at least one extension frame (120). A guide arm assembly (130) is slidingly coupled to frame extension (120) and vertically displaceable thereon. Vertical displacement of guide arm assembly (130) is made substantially effortless by a counter weight system (140) coupled to guide arm assembly (130) by a flexible member (141). Counter weight system (140) includes a floating pulley system (145) to compensate for changes in cable path length which result from the vertical displacement of guide arm assembly (130). Additionally, guide arm assembly (130) includes a system for increasing the load resistance by varying the mechanical advantage of the cable system.

Abstract: A quick release collar for a weight lifting barbell includes a collar body, an axially movable sleeve and a plurality of radially movable balls which are cammed into frictional engagement with the bar. A tension ring rigidly attached to the sleeve has a tapered inner surface portion which controls the radial positions of the movable balls. A coil spring biases the sleeve and tension ring toward a locked position in which the movable balls securely engage the bar. The collar is easily unlocked with one hand so that it can be slipped off the bar.

Abstract: A neck exercise apparatus which allows movement about three machine axes which correspond to the cervical axes of flexion/extension, lateral flexion and rotation. Selective resistance to movement about each axis may be provided and torque, position and velocity measurements made with respect to neck movement performance against the resistance.

Abstract: An exerciser of the type having a cable whose one end is attached to a stack of weights and which passes over a pulley to where its other end is attached to the rim of a wheel fixed to a lever which the user turns to lift the weights and a bench comprising two hinged sections, one of which is removable and wherein the bench sections can be positioned horizontally and can be inclined to one another so as to provide the most advantageous configuration for performing any one of a large number of exercises.

Abstract: A portable pet potty and a wetting wall for male dogs or the like. The potty includes an elongate trough for receiving animal waste and a pair of pet constraining blocks to the left and right of the trough. A set of latching bars connect the trough to the blocks and, together, the trough, blocks and bars define barricaded areas on the left and right sides of the trough which the pet will avoid. Consequently, the pet will straddle both the trough and the barricaded areas so that its body will be precisely aligned over the trough, preventing accidents. The position of the blocks relative to the trough is adjustable for accommodating differently sized pets. The wetting wall is formed of several panel pieces including a left corner piece and a right corner piece each of which provides a floor, a back wall and a left wall in the left corner piece and a right wall in the right corner piece. The floors slope toward their centers where a central hole directs waste fluid into a removable drawer below the hole.

Abstract: An exercising device for a barbell which increases the weight of the barbell during a first eccentric movement and decreases the total weight of the barbell during concentric movement. The exercising device includes a vertically elongated stand having a flat base at its lower end and a hook at its upper end. The hook is pivotal between a first position in which the hook extends around and attaches the stand to end of the barbell, and a second position in which the hook pivots away from the barbell and detaches the stand from the barbell. A weight urges the hook towards its second position so that the hook automatically moves to its second position when the base engages the ground surface. Weights are selectively added to the base to increase the overall weight of the barbell during eccentric movement as desired.

Abstract: A body fitness training apparatus to exercise the muscles is described including a lever arm positioned on a frame and seating equipment. A self-stabilizing frame with attached cable guide rolls, a weight plate held on shafts by sleeves, a telescope which adjusts the weight power and which is movably arranged in or at a vertical lever, and a seating wedge stop arranged on the frame.

Abstract: This invention is a simple, easy to use, self-cleaning pet litter box that separates reusable litter material from solid pet droppings. This task is accomplished through the use of swelled-out chutes strategically formed along the litter box walls combined with a trough-shaped, wire mesh separator that is also built into the litter box. A hole is cut in the side wall adjacent to the wire separator with a tubular-shaped protrusion extending from the outside of this hole in the wall. By using a tilting, rotating motion, the used litter is passed through the chutes in the walls and into the wire mesh separator. The solid pet waste is trapped in the separator while the still usable litter is filtered through. With one final tilt, the solid waste is dumped through the hole in the wall, through the tubular protrusion, and into an attached disposable plastic bag.

Abstract: A device for exercising producing limited strain on the back. The exerciser is supported on a base which also provides a mounting surface for an upright. The upright supports a leg rest where the exerciser's legs are placed during use. With legs elevated on the leg rest the exerciser does sit-ups. Attachment of the leg rest to the upright is done in such a way that it may be disposed at a plurality of heights for adjustment to the user's needs. To vary the exercise difficulty the angle of inclination of the platform may be adjusted either when used in conjunction with other exercise apparatus or when used along with use of the appropriate attachment.

Abstract: A load applying driving apparatus for an exercise device of any kind includes a motor providing a counterforce, a crank mechanism operatively connected to the motor and a flexible transmission member for transmitting the counterforce from the motor via the crank mechanism to a user-actuated member of the exercise device. Upon exercise, the motor exerts a load on the user-acutated member when the user carries out the lifting stroke and the return stroke.

Abstract: An exercise apparatus comprises a conventional weight bench with a leg curl attachment at one end. The leg curl attachment includes either one or two L-shaped arms pivotally attached to one end of the bench. The arm sections that project downwardly in the at rest position carry weights while the other arm sections project from the end of the bench in the at rest position and are pivotally connected to one end of a tension link. The other end of the tension link carries a cross bar that engages the legs just above the knees to exercise the stomach during leg raises.

Abstract: A weight plate for use with a barbell type exercise device wherein the plate is coupled to the apparatus' lifting bar for rotation during the exercise movement, which rotation is ultimately blocked by a leverage bar coupled to the plate for rotation therewith and positioned to contact the user's outer forearm during the exercise movement.The plate includes protrusions and recesses on its front and rear faces for interengaging adjacently mounted plates on the apparatus so that the plates rotate together without the need for the leverage bar to penetrate all plates.

Abstract: A closed system pneumatic exerciser which includes a double acting pneumatic cylinder in which an external line pneumatically connects chambers formed within the pneumatic cylinder on either side of an enclosed piston. The exerciser is portable and includes structure for removably mounting the cylinder to a wall, for example. A handle or other exerciser engaging device is attached to a shaft connected to the piston to enable a user to push and pull the piston against air pressure developed in a corresponding chamber. Two adjustable valves are mounted in the external line, each of which valves restrict the rate of flow of air in the external line in one direction but does not restrict air flow in the opposite direction. The two valves are positioned back-to-back so that air flow in the external line may be restricted in each direction. A pressure gauge is positioned intermediate these two valves to indicate the pressure in the external line.

Abstract: Controlled vertically swinging exit gates for milking parlor stalls having resilient control devices for lowering the gates in a smooth and controlled manner and to stop jerking downward or upward movement of the gate upon opening and closing, comprising two horizontally movable pulleys fastened to a draw-bar which actuates opposing cables to smoothly control operation of the gates.

Abstract: An exercise apparatus having an upright support frame upon which is mounted an adjustably weighted pull cable, an exercise lever, a rotary hand crank assembly and a rotary pedal crank assembly, all spaced within reach of a person seated or standing in front of the upright support frame in a user station. The user station is particularly adapted to receive a detachable seat member for the user, or when detached, permits the reception of a conventional chair or wheelchair in which the user may sit to operate any one or all of the exercise devices on the upright support frame.
