  • Patent number: 6952417
Abstract: A system and method selectively establishes data communications, such as XDSL services, between data devices and a network switch. Status of the data devices are monitored and active data devices are connected to a data branch for data communications. Data devices which are inactive may remain connected to the data branch, if available, or may be switched to a pilot branch. While disconnected from the pilot branch, the system may detect a signal from the data device indicating that the device is going active. If pilot signals are being used, the pilot signals between a data device and the network switch are monitored to determine when the data device is going active. Once detected, the data device is connected to the data branch. Alternately, if pilot signals are not being used, the system monitors the connection with the data device for any signals, such as a wake-up signal, which indicates that the data device is going active.

  • Patent number: 6920120
Abstract: A system and method of scheduling radio resources in a packet-switched wireless communications network. A plurality of data packets from a plurality of users are placed in a First-In-First-Out (FIFO) queue and are sequentially selected and analyzed for transmission. If a selected packet has an instantaneous radio channel quality (C/I) greater than a historical channel quality value, the packet is transmitted. If the instantaneous C/I is not greater than the historical value, it is determined whether the selected packet has been held for longer than a threshold time period. If so, the selected packet is transmitted. If neither condition is met, the selected packet is temporarily held in its position in the queue while analyzing the next packet for transmission. If no packets qualify for transmission, the packet in the first position is transmitted. After each transmission, the analysis starts again at the head of the queue.

  • Patent number: 6865151
Abstract: An embodiment includes an admission control program of a router in a transmission system. A router includes a dither signal (a periodic timing signal) at a frequency causing the IP flow to organize into a periodic and deterministic pattern. The frequency is selected to maximize IP flow rate. Multiple, independent input paths may be combined into a single output path using the dither signal to regulate when the paths are alternately combined into the single output path.

  • Patent number: 6853640
Abstract: A data selection apparatus which performs selection processes in parallel is provided. The data selection apparatus includes search units and a unit output control device. Each of the search units includes table search circuits and a data output control circuit which selects the highest priority output data. The unit output control device selects the highest priority output data from outputs of the search units. A table search circuit which succeeds in a search sends a search success signal to the data output control circuit. The search unit including the data output control circuit sends a unit search success signal to the unit output control device before performing a selection process for the highest priority data.

  • Patent number: 6775238
Abstract: In an image forming device management system and method, a failure in any of a plurality of image forming devices on a first LAN is detected by a management apparatus. A failure message is transmitted from the management apparatus to a center system via a public switched telephone network when the failure is detected, the failure message including a failure code provided to identify the failure. The failure message, transmitted by the management apparatus, is received at the center system. A database of the center system is accessed by using the failure code of the received failure message so as to produce results of the accessing at the center system. A service department ID is extracted from the database based on the accessing results. A service request message is transmitted from the center system to a service department indicated by the service department ID.

  • Patent number: 6765910
Abstract: A system (10) for communicating information includes a connecting link (50) to communicate ATM cells. A first switching system (14) receives ATM cells for at least first and second virtual circuits using a first link (20) and communicates ATM cells for the second virtual circuit using the connecting link (50). A second switching system (14) receives ATM cells for at least the first and second virtual circuits using a second link (20) and communicates ATM cells for the first virtual circuit using the connecting link (50). The first switching system (14) receives the ATM cells for the first virtual circuit from the second switching system (14), using the connecting link (50), and sequences all ATM cells for the first virtual circuit using first IMA functionality (80).

  • Patent number: 6487167
Abstract: A method which can be implemented on a computer program product for use on a network of autonomous systems to provide an ability to exclude the routing of messages to a destination IP address through a specified autonomous system. On a network in which each autonomous system ignores update messages that already include its identification number and adds it own identification number to update messages that it forwards, the method involves adding the identification number of the specified autonomous system to any update message created for the destination IP address.
