Patent number: 7176417Abstract: A resistive heater having a doped ceramic heating element embedded either partially or completely within a matrix of undoped ceramic material. The ceramic may be silicon carbide, and the dopant may be nitrogen. Many of the advantages of the present heater stern from the fact that the materials used for the heating elements and the matrix material surrounding those elements have substantially the same coefficient of thermal expansion. In one embodiment, the heater is a monolithic plate that is compact, strong, robust, and low in thermal mass, allowing it to respond quickly to power input variations. The resistive heater may be used in many of the reactors and processing chambers used to fabricate integrated circuits, such as those that deposit epitaxial films, and carry out rapid thermal processing.Type: GrantFiled: November 15, 2001Date of Patent: February 13, 2007Assignee: Mattson Technology, Inc.Inventors: Kristian E. In-line heater for use in semiconductor wet chemical processing and method of manufacturing the same
Patent number: 7164104Abstract: An in-line heater for use in semiconductor wet chemical processing comprises a single crystal alumina substrate, a resistive heating element disposed on the single crystal alumina substrate, and a protective layer disposed over the resistive heating element. The single crystal alumina substrate has a moderate coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) that is substantially equivalent to the CTEs of the resistive heating element and the protective layer. Therefore, cracking between the substrate and the protective layer can be minimized. Patent number: 7141762Abstract: Information handling system peripherals that use a heating element are protected from catastrophic failure due to overheating by a thermal failsafe associated with the heating element that fails the heating element if excessive temperatures are reached. For instance, the failsafe releases the vacuum from a heating element bulb so that the application of power to the filament of the heating element bulb oxidizes the filament resulting in failure of the filament and ceasing of generation of heat. The failsafe includes a melting agent, such as wax or solder, which seals an opening in the bulb unless a thermal runaway temperature is reached in excess of a desired operating temperature. Alternatively, the failsafe includes an expanding agent, such as a ceramic or a liquid-filled bubble, which releases the vacuum by fracturing an opening in the bulb at the thermal runaway temperature. The thermal runaway temperature is selected to induce failure before catastrophic overheating of the peripheral.Type: GrantFiled: September 13, 2005Date of Patent: November 28, 2006Assignee: Dell Products L.P.Inventors: Wayne Iltis, Donald Guthan

Patent number: 7132625Abstract: A heatable article, e.g. a heatable windshield, having a generally trapezoidal shape has a conductive member, e.g. a conductive coating, between and in contact with a pair of spaced bus bars having different lengths. Selected portions of the coating between the bus bars are segmented to reduce the difference in watt density between the coatings at the bus bars when current moves through the coating. In one non-limiting embodiment, the width of the segments at the longer bus bar is less than the width of the segments at the longer bus bar. With this configuration, the watt density at the bottom of the windshield is increased to more efficiently remove ice and snow. In another non-limiting embodiment, the coating has a communication window to pass frequencies of the electromagnetic spectrum, e.g. RF frequencies, to obtain information from within the vehicle.Type: GrantFiled: October 3, 2002Date of Patent: November 7, 2006Assignee: PPG Industries Ohio, Inc.Inventor: Charles S.
