Embodiments support various cursor activation modes that allow a user to quickly locate the cursor. A cursor activation mode is initiated by an entry condition and is associated with a modified cursor appearance. Upon detecting an entry condition, the cursor appearance is modified. Upon detecting the exit condition, the appearance of the cursor is restored. The appearance of the cursor may be modified by changing the size and/or color of the cursor. The cursor may be positioned at a default screen location or a screen location corresponding to a direction of the user's gaze.
