  • Patent number: 4708228
Abstract: A carrier for a motor vehicle clutch throw-out bearing, the bearing having a revolving race and a non-revolving race. The carrier is generally in the form of a sleeve slidably disposed on the periphery of a tubular member surrounding the driveshaft from the clutch to the motor vehicle transmission. The sleeve has a flange terminating in a rim in which the bearing is located, and the flange has resiliently deformable abutment members snapping back to their original position after the bearing has been placed within the rim, and having abutment surfaces engaged with the non-revolving race of the bearing such as to hold the bearing within the rim between the abutment surfaces and the flange.

  • Patent number: 4688664
Abstract: A clutch and brake apparatus for being mounted in a housing comprises first clutch having an annular shape and second clutch functioning as a brake adjacent the first clutch, the second clutch having an annular shape and being concentrically disposed with the first clutch. A pressure plate is mounted for non-rotating movement toward and away from the first and second clutches for selectively engaging at least one of the first and second clutches and for holding the pressure plate in a rotationally stationary position with respect to the housing and second clutch. Structure is provided for urging the pressure plate toward both the first and second clutches and is operable to engage the first clutch. Roller bearings are interposed between the first clutch and the pressure plate to permit relative movement between the pressure plate and the first clutch.

  • Patent number: 4679677
Abstract: A hydraulic type starting clutch having an input rotating member rotatable in unison with an input shaft, an output rotating member rotatable in unison with an output shaft, and friction plates interposed between the input and output rotating members and adapted to transmit torque from the input rotating member to the output rotating member when engaged. An urging member urges the friction plates to cause transmission of torque from the input rotating member to the output rotating member, and a hydraulic pressure chamber is defined between the urging member and the output rotating member and supplied with a hydraulic fluid from a hydraulic fluid source. A control device controls a pressure regulating valve in a manner such that the pressure in the hydraulic pressure chamber is regulated to values dependent upon the rotational speed of the input shaft.

  • Patent number: 4676350
Abstract: A control device in a motor vehicle having a clutch and a transmission for controlling operation of the clutch and the transmission, includes a control lever angularly movable in first and second directions perpendicular to each other, a first connector mechanism interconnecting the control lever and the transmission for enabling the transmission to shift gears therein in response to angular movement of the control lever in the first direction, a follower having a portion extending in the first direction, the follower being angularly movable in the second direction, the portion being normally held in contact with the control lever when the control lever is angularly moved in the first and second directions, a second connector mechanism interconnecting the follower and the clutch for enabling the clutch to be engaged and disengaged in response to angular movement of the follower in the second direction, and a member for allowing the control lever to be angularly moved in the first direction only when the contr

  • Patent number: 4676352
Abstract: A combination, right angle gear drive including a clutch assembly with a drive clutch mechanism and a non-reverse clutch mechanism. The gear drive has a top-mounted motor stand for a primary power source and a horizontal drive shaft adapted for coupling to a backup power source. The drive clutch automatically engages upon activation of the backup power source and automatically disengages when the primary power source beings operation. The non-reverse clutch mechanism blocks reverse rotation of the gear drive.

  • Patent number: 4674609
Abstract: The transmission of torsional vibrations from a rotating driving shaft, at the output of an internal combustion engine, to a driven shaft, at the input of a manual transmission, are reduced or eliminated by employing a normally-engaged, oil-cooled wet clutch to interconnect the two shafts, the clutch being controlled to introduce a desired amount of slippage. Slipping the wet clutch to a relatively small extent allows the necessary torque to be transmitted, but any torque fluctuations in the driving shaft will be effectively absorbed and prevented from causing torsional vibrations in the drivetrain.

  • Patent number: 4410027
Abstract: A flexible sheet of material such as plastic film is attached to a supporting surface by a two-piece retainer strip assembly including a bottom strip member and a top strip member extruded from a semi-rigid plastics material and having the same width. The bottom strip member has a recess with undercut portions defined by opposing inwardly projecting protuberances, and the top strip member has an inner portion with outwardly projecting protuberances, one of which is formed with a cam surface. In one embodiment, the bottom strip member has projecting bottom corner portions which assure an air-tight seal between the bottom strip member and the supporting surface.

  • Patent number: 4371062
Abstract: A clutch operating device in which an operating shaft is reciprocatingly rotated to operate a clutch operating member for setting and unsetting of a clutch. The clutch operating device has an operating shaft, and a cam mechanism disposed on the operating shaft. The cam mechanism is movable axially as the operating shaft rotates. A clutch release member controls setting and unsetting of the clutch, and a clutch lever connects operatively the cam mechanism to the clutch release member to actuate the clutch release member in response to axial forward movement of the cam mechanism. A return spring biases the cam mechanism backward through the clutch lever.

  • Patent number: 4334799
Abstract: An impact roller for applying blows cyclically to a surface over which the roller is rolling. The roller has flail members pivotally connected thereto and also has recesses to accommodate the flail members when inoperative. In operation, when the roller rolls along a surface, the flail members fall forwardly under gravity and impart cyclic downward blows to the surface over which the roller is rolling. Upon faster rolling of the roller, the magnitude of the blows increases under the action of centrifugal force.

  • Patent number: 4326611
Abstract: A diaphragm clutch cover assembly is disclosed comprising a cover having a peripheral flange secured to a flywheel, a diaphragm spring, assembly means rockably mounting the diaphragm spring on the cover between axial spaced fulcra and axially applying a predetermined resilient clamping load, and a pressure plate fixed for rotation with and axial displacement in relation to the cover. The resilient clamping load on the diaphragm spring is selected between the peak value of the release load on the diaphragm spring at the minimum reference value and the greater of the final value of the release load at the minimum reference value and the final value of the release load at the maximum reference distance. In the coarse of service life the diaphragm spring breaks contact with one of its fulcra when it rocks from its engagement position and its disengagement position.

  • Patent number: 4262787
Abstract: Input and output members (19), (28) and a clutch disc (32) are coaxially rotatable relative to each other, the clutch disc (32) being frictionally engageable with the input member (19). A coil-would spring (33) is wound around the input member (19) and connected at its ends to the clutch disc (32) and output member (28). An electromagnetic coil (26) may be energized to attract the clutch disc (32) into frictional engagement with the input member (19), causing the coil-wound spring (33) to tightly wind around the input member (19) and drivably connect the input member (19) to the output member (28). A spring (41) quickly and smoothly disengages the clutch disc (32) from the input member (19) when the coil (26) is de-energized. A plurality of pins (36) extending through the clutch disc (32) ensure parallel movement of the clutch disc (32) toward and away from the input member (19).
