  • Patent number: 5702317
Abstract: An arrangement which can reduce the space between a tension pulley of an autotensioner and an engine block and thus reduce the installation space of an autotensioner. A sub-reservoir is provided at the side of a plunger of a hydraulic damper. The hydraulic damper is arranged between the tension pulley and the engine block so that it is received inside the outer periphery of the tension pulley with its plunger abutting a pin of an eccentric ring. It is thus possible to reduce the space between the tension pulley and the engine block.

  • Patent number: 5700213
Abstract: A hydraulic tensioner is provided with a plunger slidably fitted in a cavity in the tensioner housing and biased in a protruding direction by a spring and fluid. An integral inlet check and pressure relief valve is positioned in the cavity and permits fluid to only flow into the cavity and thereby protrude the plunger but not out of the cavity until a high pressure condition is reached whereupon fluid is relieved out of the cavity back to the fluid source. The integral inlet check and pressure relief valve includes a check spring biasing a valve member a against a pressure relief disk that is biased against the valve member by a pressure relief spring.

  • Patent number: 5692984
Abstract: A flexible drive member for pushing and pulling an article includes a toothed belt section and ridge members which are arranged on the opposite surface of the toothed belt section along the length direction of the toothed belt section. The ridge members abut adjacent ones when the toothed belt section extends straight. The ridge members include respective hold portions which hold an elongated member, such as a hose and a wire. The abutment of adjacent ridge members enables transmission of pushing force. A fluid-operated device moving apparatus utilizes the flexible drive member which is arranged to have a T-shaped transverse cross-section corresponding to a T-shaped groove in which the flexible drive member can be guided. A fluid-operated device, such as a hydraulically operated clamping device, is coupled to one end of the flexible drive member.

  • Patent number: 5692982
Abstract: A variable speed belt drive having adjustable mass and moment of inertia camweights is shown for use primarily in conjunction with snowmobile, golf cart, all terrain vehicle and small automobile engines. In one version, the camweight includes a series of perforations or score lines surrounding a cross section of the camweight arm. The perforations define a volume that may be snapped or cut off of the arm with a suitable tool. Also, a series of bores are formed through the arm. In order to increase the mass of the arm, a molten metal or similar flowable material may be poured into one or more of the bores and allowed to cure. In another version of the invention, a reduced cross section arm serves as a base onto which shims are added or reoriented in order to achieve the desired mass and moment of inertia characteristics.

  • Patent number: 5692563
Abstract: A tubing friction reducer is mounted on a length of tubing within a bore hole. The friction reducer includes a cylindrical body having a first section and a second section hingedly secured around an exterior surface of the coiled tubing, the cylindrical body having an outside diameter larger than an outside diameter of the coiled tubing and less than an inside diameter of an adjacent bore surface. A plurality of roller bearings positioned on and extending outwardly from the cylindrical body extending in a generally axial direction along the cylindrical body for the purpose of reducing friction between the coiled tubing and the bore surface generated upon contact between the coiled tubing and the bore surface. Retaining mechanisms such as collapsible springs are included for securing the roller bearings to the cylindrical body. The tubing friction reducers are placed along the tubing at intervals to either minimize injector force, prevent buckling, and tubing failure, due to buckling or wear.

  • Patent number: 5690570
Abstract: A sprocket assembly includes a larger diameter sprocket having a plurality of teeth formed on an outer periphery thereof, and a smaller diameter sprocket having a plurality of teeth formed on an outer periphery thereof. A driving chain meshes with the plurality of teeth of the smaller diameter sprocket and is able to shift from a first center of a space defined between the teeth of one pair of adjacent teeth located at the smaller diameter sprocket to a second center of a space defined between the teeth of one pair of adjacent teeth located at the larger diameter sprocket. A distance between the first and second centers is made not equal to an integer multiple of the pitch of the driving chain such that the driving chain is bent between the first and second centers and is deflected from a moving direction thereof which is along a tangent line drawn from the first center of the smaller diameter sprocket, and such that the driving chain has a deflection point relative to the first and second centers.

  • Patent number: 5690568
Abstract: A chain and sprocket system includes a plurality of chains and sprockets. The system includes a crankshaft, an idler shaft and two overhead camshafts. The two sprockets on the idler shaft that connect by chain to drive the camshafts are phased or offset with respect to each other to alter the impact and chordal action generated noise. These idler camshaft sprockets and the idler sprocket of the crankshaft are all manufactured separately and then placed together on a spline or hub. In this way, the idler sprocket assembly consists of four parts, which eases manufacture and assembly.
