  • Patent number: 4697439
Abstract: A device consists of equidistant rods, located below the needle bed of a machine, perpendicular to the traverse direction of movement of a carriage, with the upper ends bent downwards to form a corresponding number of latch sections, and directed towards the upper heads of the needle beds. The rods are controlled by a cam on the carriage; raising of the rods causes the latch sections to be inserted between the stitches of the fabric in the last rows of the fabric portion situated below the working area of the sections: in this way the latch sections act as stops for the rows.Downstream from the working area of the needles, there is a fabric presser plate which presses the row just formed in a downwards direction and according to a preset pressure.

  • Patent number: 4694741
Abstract: In an apparatus for making a rolled wafer cone from a baked flat wafer blank made from a sugar-containing wafer dough, the baked wafer blank is rolled to form a wafer cone in a winding mold while the wafer blank is still in a soft, deformable state after the baking operation. Thereafter the rolled wafer cone is permitted to harden. In order to ensure the production of wafer cones having consistently exactly the same shape, it is proposed that the wafer cone which is unrestrained at least in part is shortened in the winding mold to a predetermined length while the wafer cone is adapted to be plastically deformed. For this purpose the rolled wafer cone disposed in the winding mold is subjected to a plastic deformation only at one end or only at both ends.

  • Patent number: 4693190
Abstract: A needle plate for a controlled needle tufting machine utilized for overtufting secondary yarn into a backing material having a primary pile previously formed therein. The needle plate has needle plate fingers disposed with the upper support surfaces above the needle plate support surface by an amount substantially equal to the pile height of the primary yarn tufts. As the backing material with the primary tufts is fed over the needle plate it is raised relative to the needle plate as it rides over the finger support surfaces. The hooks of the tufting machine may therefore be raised so that the pile height of the loops of secondary yarn being overtufted may be reduced by an amount substantially equal to that of the pile height of the primary tufts. This results in reducing the required amount of tip shearing of the secondary pile to bring it level with that of the primary pile.

  • Patent number: 4688497
Abstract: A yarn feed mechanism in which a counterlever frame extends forwardly from the tufting machine has high speed and low speed drive shafts driven, in synchronization, with the needle bar. Transversely aligned pairs of yarn feed rolls are suspended from the frame below each shaft and are driven through chains and sprockets from their associated drive shafts when the individual clutches of the rolls are energized. The rolls of transversely aligned pairs of rolls are spaced from each other with no intervening shaft so that intermediate portions of yarns extending between a coil and the rollers can be installed partially around the selected rolls without breaking or removing the yarns from the needles.

  • Patent number: 4686918
Abstract: A method and apparatus is disclosed for making improved tufted buffing pads of varied density across the face surface thereof. The apparatus comprises a tufting machine for placing pile in a spiral or circular pattern on a backing pad to form the buffing pad. The backing pad is held by a rotatable and laterally-movable pad holder which is coupled to a programmable controller. An improved buffing pad of varying density is achieved by coupling a programmable computer to the programmable controller for varying the length of intermittent steps that the pad holder is laterally moved relating to the tufting machine. By proper programming, pile applied to the backing pad is maximized in a selected high-wear area of the buffing pad, and minimized in a selected low-wear area of the buffing pad.

  • Patent number: 4686838
Abstract: A device is designed to operate two slides to which corresponding stitch regulation cams are bound, and it includes: a plate, mounted on the carriage and located below the slides, that is able to be moved by means in relation to the carriage in the direction in which this latter is itself moved, two tracks, symmetrical in relation to a vertical plane, formed in the upper part of the plate, each constituted by flat horizontal surface and by a flat surface that follows on and inwards from the former, turning downwards, elastic means which keep the extremities of the slides in contact with the corresponding tracks.Movement of the plate in one direction causes the slide which is downstream in respect of the direction of movement to be lowered in proportion to the amount by which the former is moved.

  • Patent number: 4682480
Abstract: A warp knit fabric comprises a substrate (preferably a non-woven fabric), plural warp yarns laid on a face of the substrate, plural weft yarns laid over the warp yarns, and plural stitch wales spaced-apart along the warp-wise direction of the fabric and being stitched through the substrate to hold the weft and warp yarns in position thereon. In such a manner, the warp yarns are interposed between the inserted weft yarns and the substrate face. A method and apparatus is also disclosed whereby the substrate and plural weft yarns are fed to a knitting area while concurrently interposing the warp yarns between a face of the substrate and the weft yarns. The weft yarns are then inserted into stitches of warp knitting yarns formed by stitching the warp knitting yarns, at the knitting ara, through the substrate so as to hold the weft-inserted yarns, and thus the interposed warp yarns, to the substrate face.

  • Patent number: 4680947
Abstract: An improved interchangeable knitting needle system comprising knitting needles, preferably made of molded plastic, and being formed with cable connecting members that prevent breakage of the needles during use with detachably engaged hollow flexible cables that collect the knitted loops, and the like therealong. A pair of needles may be connected to opposite ends of a flexible cable for the storage of looped yarn therebetween. The system further includes a double-ended connector member capable of interconnecting a plurality of flexible cables between a pair of knitting needles. Said double-ended connector member having opposite connecting ends which are also detachably engageable at the ends of the joined flexible cables. The system further provides a stop button capable of detachably connecting to one end of a cable whereby one knitting needle may be independent of the cable, and another knitting needle may be secured to the other end of the cable to enable the storage of looped yarn along the cable.

  • Patent number: 4679413
Abstract: A flat-bed knitting machine having a spool table disposed above the needle bed and carriage apparatus, in a rear area of the machine, is described. A multiplicity of yarn spool holders, which are movable into a front area above the needle bed and carriage apparatus, and a plurality of yarn supply devices are held on the spool table. To make the individual yarn spools of such a flat knitting machine more accessible, with less effort, even during machine operation, the yarn spool holders are divided into sets of a plurality of holders, and each set of holders is secured on a pull-out rail of a pull-out device. The pull-out rail is movable relative to a guide rail of the pull-out apparatus, and the guide rail is secured on the stationary spool table.

  • Patent number: 4679412
Abstract: In a method of determining and correcting the length of a piece of knitting eing produced on an electronically controlled flat knitting machine, the particular length of the piece of knitting which is being produced is continuously monitored by means of a sensor which supplies a value for the determined actual length to a control circuit where the value is compared with an instantaneous, programmed desired length value, and the determined real length value and the result of the comparison are used to control the stitch length in the following courses and/or the shape and/or type of knitting and pattern of the rest of the piece of knitting. by this means it is possible to produce constant-length pieces of knitting of the same shape, independently of changes in the technical knitting parameters, and controlled by the determination of the relevant actual knitted length of the piece of knitting.
