Abstract: A sever for providing television and system and method for use of the same are disclosed. In one embodiment, the server includes a network interface controller that is configured to receive a source internet protocol television signal, which includes two channels, from an external source and at least partially prepare the source internet protocol signal in order to forward the signal to a television. The server saves in a buffer the at least partially prepared second channel beginning at a recent periodic, sequential signal access point. In response to receiving a channel request instruction from a requesting television when the server is forwarding the at least partially prepared first channel signal, the server forwards the at least partially prepared signal based on the second channel stored in the buffer beginning at the recent periodic, sequential signal access point.

Abstract: This information processing apparatus includes: an AV decoder 41 that acquires and reproduces video data including a service object, for which a service that processes a request from a user through voice is available; and an application execution environment 43 that adds an additional image for informing the user about the service object to the reproduced video. The additional image includes a visual feature unique to each service object such that the service object is uniquely determined by voice recognition in the service.

Abstract: Example apparatus disclosed herein are to compare (i) ratios of program ratings to corresponding network ratings with (ii) a threshold to determine adjusted viewing data for respective sites during a monitoring interval, the program ratings and the corresponding network ratings determined for programs tuned on corresponding networks at the respective sites during the monitoring interval, the adjusted viewing data for a combination of a first program and a first site to represent an adjusted amount of time the first program was presented at the first site. Disclosed example apparatus are also to cluster the programs into program clusters based on distances between respective combinations of pairs of the programs, the distances based on the adjusted viewing data. Disclosed example apparatus are further to output information to identify the program clusters.

Sets of the media items are scheduled to slots according to one or more constraints pertaining to that slot and/or to media items scheduled to other slots. The receiver may select a media item for output in a slot by resolving constraints with media items scheduled to other slots, or selected for output in other slots.

Abstract: A method for managing reception of digital contents by a management device suitable for receiving a command for selecting a content, termed the main content, arising from a control device. The management device is suitable for requesting reception of the main content and of other digital contents, termed secondary contents. It is also suitable for receiving the data streams representative of the requested contents, and for requesting the retrieval of the main content. According to the method, in the course of retrieval of the main content, a detection of an activity related to the control device triggers a request suitable for requesting reception of the secondary contents.

Abstract: Systems, apparatus, articles of manufacture, and methods are disclosed for media monitoring and audience measurement. An example system includes a symbol alphabet meter to generate a query symbol alphabet based on captured data of an optical pulse stream, the optical pulse stream detected from a media remote control. The example system also includes a symbol alphabet matcher to apply a probability function to the query symbol alphabet and a reference symbol alphabet to determine a symbol alphabet matching probability, and determine a symbol alphabet match based on the symbol alphabet matching probability. In addition, the example system includes a key code detector to determine a key code based on the symbol alphabet match.

Abstract: A system for quantifying viewer engagement with a video playing on a display includes at least one camera to acquire image data of a viewing area in front of the display. A microphone acquires audio data emitted by a speaker coupled to the display. The system also includes a memory to store processor-executable instructions and a processor. Upon execution of the processor-executable instructions, the processor receives the image data and the audio data and determines an identity of the video displayed on the display based on the audio data. The processor also estimates a first number of people present in the viewing area and a second number of people engaged with the video. The processor further quantifies the viewer engagement of the video based on the first number of people and the second number of people.

Abstract: One embodiment provides a method, including: obtaining, from each of two more panoramic cameras, panoramic video, wherein each of the two or more panoramic cameras are located at different physical locations within an event environment; compositing the panoramic video obtained from the two or more panoramic cameras into a single video; and streaming the composited panoramic video to one or more end users, wherein each of the one or more end users provide commands to manipulate the streamed composited panoramic video resulting in viewing of a different view of the streamed composited panoramic video for the corresponding end user based on the provided commands.

Abstract: A platform configured to provide virtual glass in order to augment and improve focus group sessions for each actor within the ecosystem. The platform may be configured to allow a moderator, one or more test subjects, and one or more client users to participate in a focus group session at geographically diverse locations. The platform may also be configured to supplement the focus group experience by allowing for dialog and communication between the client users. In some cases, the platform may also be configured to generate and provide real time status indicators associate with the tests subject, real time text-based transcripts of the sessions, and recommendations as to the focus group direction to the moderator.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus for improving channel browsing experience for users by presenting an automatically appearing and automatically scrolling program guide are described. The methods and apparatus are well suited for use with remote control devices with limited numbers of input buttons, e.g., under five buttons, but can be used with remote controls with more buttons. The program guide can be used to allow access to a grid guide to users of hospital remotes or other remotes with limited input keys, e.g., an up down arrow and/or a power button. The method in some embodiments uses time spent on a channel in combination with user selection of an input key to determine an action to be taken, e.g., enter or display the program grid guide and/or select a channel and/or corresponding program being displayed in the grid guide.

The recommendation engine also gathers profile data that reflects a set of preferences associated with the user. Based on the gathered data, the recommendation engine queries a database of cooking program data associated with various cooking programs. The recommendation engine obtains cooking program data that is contextually relevant to the user and then generates a contextual cooking program that describes how to perform a given recipe. During playback of the contextual cooking program, the recommendation engine can modify the contextual cooking program based on the progress of the user in following the recipe.
