  • Patent number: 4541290
Abstract: Apparatus for obtaining a sample of objects is provided. The objects are carried by a first conveyor belt and are sampled by striking a lower surface of the conveyor belt to cause some of the objects to be thrown upwardly over a barrier into a receptacle. The objects from the receptacle are carried by a second conveyor which has cleats for carrying objects to a detector one-by-one. The detector operates a deflecting plate to obtain a second sample for inspection. Objects which are not deflected by the plate are returned to the first conveyor belt, while those which are deflected enter a chute for collection. The apparatus for delivering an impact to the conveyor belt preferably comprises a bell crank which strikes the conveyor belt 4 in response to a hydraulic actuator.

  • Patent number: 4539842
Abstract: A spray pattern analyzer for use in analyzing spray patterns formed by spray nozzles which are attached to an agricultural spray applicator boom. This analyzer includes a corrugated collector tray mounted on a cart. The cart has wheels for moving the collector tray through the spray pattern. The collector tray is designed so as to receive collector test tubes each being longitudinally aligned with the troughs of the collector tray. When the troughs are partially filled with spray, the collector tray is tilted so that the spray will flow into the test tubes to provide a visual indication of the pattern. The collector tray is constructed in segments to allow the collector tray to be collapsed. Further, the cart is constructed to permit an adjustment of the height of the collector tray from the surface upon which the cart rests.

  • Patent number: 4538460
Abstract: The permeability of samples, especially rock samples, is determined by immersing the sample in a dye solution to permit dye to diffuse into the sample, rinsing remaining dye solution from the surface and then either placing the rinsed sample in a leachback solution to permit dye to diffuse out into the leachback liquid or else simply allowing the dye to diffuse out onto the surface of the sample, thereby causing a coloration indicative of the permeability of the sample. The method can be practiced on slab samples or drill cuttings.

  • Patent number: 4535623
Abstract: The surface hardness of material is tested by the extent of penetration of a tool thereinto by moving the tool onto the surface from a low to a high value of compressive force and then back to the low value by reversible rotative movements with the penetration being determined from the difference between the two rotative movements, in which the movement may be related to incremental rotative steps with the difference in the number of steps determining the extent of penetration and in which the movement may be automatically performed. The improvements comprise differential thread means comprising a rotatable part and means for revolving the rotatable part to effect linear movement of the penetrating end, and flexure means allowing free axial motion but preventing rotation of the rod (21) therebetween.
