Patent number: 4880226Abstract: A skiing simulator which includes a platform formed by an annular peripheral frame defining an opening in which there is suspended a disc. The disc is suspended by tension springs extending between the edge of the disc and the peripheral frame. A pair of openings having parallel longitudinal axes are defined in the disc, and sole plates are adapted to rotate about the longitudinal axes in respective openings. A parallelogram linkage extends between the sole plates to control the parallel rotational movement therof, and a damper is connected between the disc and the linkage in order to provide resistance to the rotational movement of the sole plates. Ski boot bindings are fixed to each of the sole plates for receiving ski boots. A skier utilizing the skiing simulator can simulate forward and rearward tilting as well as translational lateral body movements of skiing.Type: GrantFiled: February 21, 1989Date of Patent: November 14, 1989Inventor: Peter Krantz

Patent number: 4869496Abstract: A piece of equipment for the simulation of skiing movements which comprises a basic structure which can be stably placed on the ground. An arm is hinged to the basic structure in a median position and is able to oscillate horizontally. The arm carries a pair of boards at its end. Feet are connected to the structure to incline it with respect to the ground. The arm is able to carry out a slight vertical oscillation. The boards are restrained to the arm so that they can rotate around their vertical and horizontal axes, the rotation around the vertical axis being limited by suitable means. Two rods overhang and are connected to the arm by pins. The rods are able to rotate around the vertical axis of these pins, such rotation being made synchronous with that of the boards. The rotation is opposite to the direction of oscillation of the arm.Type: GrantFiled: June 13, 1988Date of Patent: September 26, 1989Inventor: Ottavio Colombo

Patent number: 4867440Abstract: The invention relates to an arrangement for an exercise device. The arrangement comprises a bogie provided with running rolls for supporting a seat on a rail part. The edges of the rail part are provided with flanges so that the running rolls have room enough between the flanges. The lower flanges are thereby arranged to act as rolling surfaces for the runnng rolls when the bogie is positioned on the rail part. In order that the seat would move reliably on the rail part, a counter roll is provided on both sides of the bogie between the running rolls. The lower edge of the counter roll is arranged to be positioned at a distance from the rolling surface when the running rolls are supported on the rolling surfaces. The upper flanges are provided with counter surfaces which are supported only on the upper surfaces of the counter rolls when the running rolls rise off the rolling surfaces.Type: GrantFiled: August 26, 1988Date of Patent: September 19, 1989Assignee: Tunturipyora OyInventor: Sulevi Saarinen

Patent number: 4863159Abstract: Apparatus is disclosed for use in the exercise of the human body, which comprises a fiberglass pultruded shape of a predetermined oblong geometry with an extruded rubber compound sheath formed about the exterior thereof over the entire length of the fiberglass pultruded shape. The fiberglass pultruded shape has fiberglass filaments dimensionally stabilized in a hardened resin system. Material properties of the filaments in the resin system are selected such that the ultimate elongation design value of the filaments and the resin system is greater than the actual maximum elongation of the filaments and the resin system when the fiberglass member is flexed in the exercise process. Also, the resin is selected for toughness sufficient to provide a useful flexural fatigue life.Type: GrantFiled: March 25, 1988Date of Patent: September 5, 1989Assignee: Morrison Molded Fiber Glass CompanyInventor: Gordon L.
