  • Patent number: 8208407
Abstract: In one embodiment, in response to receiving a topology change notification at a network bridge having ports identified as either a network port or an edge port, address learning may be disabled on the network bridge. Once address learning is disabled, an association of all entries of a forwarding table of the network bridge having addresses previously forwarded on a particular network port of the network bridge may be changed to forward those addresses on all network ports of the network bridge (e.g., flooding the frames not addressed to edge ports on all network ports only). Subsequently, address learning may be enabled on the network bridge, thus repopulating the network port entries of the forwarding table in response to the topology change.

  • Patent number: 8139586
Abstract: A method for classifying a data packet containing a header is provided. The method may comprise parsing the header of a data packet into header elements. Rules in secondary lookup tables generated from a primary lookup table may be accessed. The respective header elements of the data packet may be compared to the respective fields of each of the secondary lookup tables, and rule results for each of the secondary lookup tables in a combinable format may be generated. In another embodiment, a method for generating secondary lookup tables from a primary lookup table is provided. The method may comprise accessing a primary lookup table defining packet classification rules and generating multiple secondary lookup tables from the primary lookup table. For each secondary lookup table, a selection of classification rules and a selection of fields of the multiple fields based on a rule set identifying predefined entries may be extracted.

  • Patent number: 8121144
Abstract: A method for communication includes allocating time intervals for a first communication session over a first connection between a wireless terminal and a base station of a long-range wireless data network, which operates in accordance with a first protocol defining time frames having downlink and uplink sub-frames. Time slots are allocated for a second communication session over a second connection between the terminal and a peripheral wireless device, which operates in accordance with a second, short-range time-slotted protocol, which is different from the first protocol and has a retransmission mechanism. The time slots are synchronized with the downlink and uplink sub-frames defined by the BS. Operation of the second connection is inhibited during some of the time slots that overlap the downlink sub-frames, so as to invoke the retransmission mechanism and cause the terminal to transmit only during the time slots that do not overlap the downlink sub-frames.

  • Patent number: 8116230
Abstract: A method and apparatus is provided for establishing communication pathways between infrastructure devices in a wide area communication network prior to transmission of a group message packet by a source wireless communication device (WCD). In one implementation, the infrastructure devices (IDs) can include a home ID of the source WCD, a first ID and a second ID. A home steward module (HSM) of the source WCD generates a distribution list (DL) for communications from the source WCD to a first communication group (CG), and communicates it to an envoy packet duplicator module (EPDM) located at the first ID. The first CG includes, for example, a first destination WCD. A first network socket of the EPDM is communicated from the HSM to a second envoy module (located at the second ID) for the first destination WCD. The HSM maps a second network socket for the second envoy module to an identifier of the first destination WCD, and communicates this mapping to the EPDM.

  • Patent number: 8116227
Abstract: Optimal automated exploration of hierarchical MPLS LSPs is disclosed. A path verification message (PVM) is transmitted from an initial router. Each label in the PVM's label stack corresponds to a hierarchy layer and is associated with a time-to-live (TTL) field. The TTL field for the label of a current layer is set so the PVM travels one hop from the initial router. In response, a reply message indicating that the PVM reached its destination is received. These steps are then repeated. For each successive PVM transmitted, the TTL field associated with a label corresponding to the current hierarchy layer is incremented. For any reply message including information describing a non-current layer, modify the next PVM's label stack and increment the TTL field of the label for the described different layer; any other TTL fields are unchanged. If any received reply message indicates a destination router was reached, the process terminates.

  • Patent number: 8054776
Abstract: A method and network communicate packets by assigning, in each one of a set of multiple transmitters, a power level to a packet to be transmitted during a time interval. The power level is selected from a set of power levels available for the set of multiple transmitters. The power levels in the set range from highest to lowest. There is one packet for each transmitter such that there is a set of packets to be transmitted during the time interval. The set of packets is transmitted concurrently during the time interval to enable decoding of at least one of the packets in the set of packets during the time interval.

  • Patent number: 8054801
Abstract: A method and system for implementing an inter-Access Network (AN) handoff in an active state in a High Rate Packet Data (HRPD) Network. The method mainly includes determining that an inter-AN handoff operation is necessary and initiating a handoff procedure to perform the inter-AN handoff, sending data to be transmitted to an access terminal to the destination AN in advance in the handoff procedure, and then sending the access terminal the data to be transmitted to the access terminal by the source AN or the destination AN according to the result of the handoff procedure. With the method according to the present invention, the continuity of a service may be improved. Even if the inter-AN handoff procedure fails, the source PCF may send data information obtained upon the start of the handoff to the access terminal when the access terminal returns to the source AN since the source PCF may receive data from the PDSN throughout the handoff procedure. As a result, the continuity of a service may be improved.

  • Patent number: 8036135
Abstract: Systems and methodologies are described that facilitate determining when and whether to implement a sender-based data packet scheduling mechanism or a receiver-based data packet scheduling mechanism based on one or mode scheduling factors. For example, a sending node and a receiving node may communicate to permit a determination of which node is more capable of performing the scheduling tasks, and a corresponding scheduling technique may be selected and executed. According to an aspect, an amount of data downloading may be compared to an amount of data uploading at each node, and a sender-based scheduling protocol may be performed when the amount of data uploading is greater than the amount of downloading data.
