  • Patent number: 9706225
Abstract: The embodiments reduce output delay for pictures by determining after a current picture has been decoded and stored in a decoded picture buffer, DPB, a number of pictures in the DPB that are marked as needed for output. This number is compared, after a current picture has been decoded and stored in the DPB, against a value derived form at least one syntax element present or to be present in a bitstream representing pictures of a video sequence. If this number is greater than the value a picture, which is the first picture in output order, of the pictures in the DPB that are marked as needed for output is preferably output and marked as not needed for output.

  • Patent number: 9232982
Abstract: A system for orientation assistance and display of an instrument that is inserted or present in the natural or artificially produced hollow cavity (human, animal, object), and that is equipped with one or more sensor units. Multiple measurements of the 3D position of the instrument equipped with one or more sensor units are performed by positioning a measuring system, so that a precise orientation and positioning of the instrument in the body can be computed. The 3D position data are used to compute a virtual image of the instrument synchronously. The virtual images are then either projected directly in exact position onto the body surface of a person or combined in a body surface image (real video camera image of the patient) onto a monitor or superimposed (virtual or augmented reality). The system is especially appropriate for displaying for a user a medical instrument, such as a catheter or a rigid or flexible endoscope, in the body of a person in real time, extracorporeally and in correct position.

  • Patent number: 9185404
Abstract: In general, techniques are described for performing transform dependent de-blocking filtering, which may be implemented by a video encoding device. The video encoding device may apply a transform to a video data block to generate a block of transform coefficients, apply a quantization parameter to quantize the transform coefficients and reconstruct the block of video data from the quantized transform coefficients. The video encoding device may further determine at least one offset used in controlling de-blocking filtering based on the size of the applied transform, and perform de-blocking filtering on the reconstructed block of video data based on the determined offset. Additionally, the video encoder may specify a flag in a picture parameter set (PPS) that indicates whether the offset is specified in one or both of the PPS and a header of an independently decodable unit.

  • Patent number: 9171442
Abstract: A method and system for confirming the identity of a product in a security system and for determining sales-related information pertaining to the products. One or more products are associated with a product identification element, such as a bar code or an RFID tag. A reader or a scanner within the system receives a signal from the product identification element containing product identity information about the product. The system further includes a camera that captures a video image of the product. Signals representing the product identity information and the video image of the product are forwarded to a data correlation unit that determines if the product associated with the product identity information matches the product in the video image.

  • Patent number: 9115983
Abstract: In a position measurement apparatus and a positioning measuring method, an image capturing element having an imaging region of a dimension smaller than that of a workpiece is moved relatively over a surface of the workpiece while an image on the surface of the workpiece is captured. In addition, a pattern on the surface of the workpiece is extracted from an image (I(t)) inside the imaging region, and a displacement amount of the pattern occurring in the image (I(t+1)) inside the imaging region is detected. A position on the surface of the workpiece is measured based on the detected displacement amount and the dimension.

  • Patent number: 9082214
Abstract: A method for providing a three dimensional (3D) drawing experience. The method includes capturing a 3D image of a participant and then processing this image to key the participant's image from a background. The keyed participant's image is mixed with a 3D background image such as frames or scenes from a 3D movie, and the mixed 3D image is projected on a projection screen. For example, left and right eye images may be projected from a pair of projectors with polarization films over the lenses, and the projection screen may be a polarization-maintaining surface such as a silver screen. The user moves a drawing instrument in space in front of the projection screen, and spatial tracking performed to generate a locus of 3D positions. These 3D positions are used to create a 3D drawing image that is projected with the 3D background and participant images in real time.

  • Patent number: 9077985
Abstract: In a video display device and system, a timing control section performs timing control for right- and left-eye video signals and to each have a blanking period whose length (Duty) is longer than that of a first-time blanking period Tb1 at least once in second-time and later blanking periods, e.g., performs timing control for a second-time blanking period Tb2 to be longer in Duty than the first-time blanking period Tb1. With such timing control, for stereoscopic display video viewing using open-state shutter glasses in the second-time blanking period Tb2 with a sequential write mode, there are advantages that the shutter glasses can remain longer in the open state while the response characteristics of the liquid crystal material being enhanced. As such, with the resulting video display device and system, the occurrence of crosstalk can be favorably prevented at the same time as reducing any reduction in display brightness.

  • Patent number: 8957956
Abstract: According to one example embodiment, a process and system include a camera used to capture a sequence of illuminated images of an subject, wherein the images are stored in frames. The focus point is changed for each image captured so that the focus point sweeps from a far to a near end of a sweep range, in discrete steps or continuous motion, so that successive images have slightly overlapping depths of field. The sweep range and overlapping depths of field provide that at least one image is well focused on the iris of the eye of the subject. In one other example embodiment, one or more of the images are illumined with a illumination fired for a respective captured image. In another embodiment, the sweep range is determined at least in part using a range finder or is otherwise controlled to determine a position of the subject so that the sweep range starts and stops a desired distance in front of and behind the subject, respectively.
