  • Patent number: 8031598
Abstract: Burst-switching nodes using a common-memory or a time shared space switch and employing flow-rate control are disclosed. Within a switching node, data bursts are segmented into data segments of a fixed size with some segments containing information bits as well as null bits. A switching node handles data streams allocated different flow rates and, for any data stream, the internal flow rate through the switching node can be higher than the external flow rate due to null padding of segmented data. The switching node is provided with a sufficient internal capacity expansion in order to offset the effect of null padding. A controller of the switching node is provided with a flow-rate-regulation apparatus to enable scheduling the transfer of data segments across the switching node in a manner that guarantees adherence to the allocated information flow rates.

  • Patent number: 8023405
Abstract: A method for activation of circuits in telecommunications networks comprises a first step in which circuits are preplanned in the network and local definition data are distributed to network members (NE) for connection of sections of the preplanned circuits. In a second step, when it is desired to activate a preplanned circuit, activation messages for the connection of sections making up the preplanned circuit to be activated and which are defined by the data previously distributed to the network members are propagated in the network in cascade among the network members affected by the preplanned circuit by means of overhead bytes of the frames circulating in the network. The data are made up of indexed tables defining pairs formed from “next point (TP) to be connected” and “index” to be propagated for the following cross-connection. A network functioning in accordance with the method is also proposed.

  • Patent number: 8018955
Abstract: Systems and methods for providing dynamic changes to a packet flow in a communication network are described. The dynamic changes can include upgrading and downgrading quality of service (QoS), adapting the stream to a receiving device, modifying the stream to counter-act changes in an air interface, and modifying the stream to accommodate an inter-technology handover. These changes can be provided by inspecting packets at a gateway and setting up a proxy for multimedia stream packet flows. The proxy can coordinate transcoding to take place to change the stream. The gateway can also monitor conditions at the mobile node using a real time control protocol or other applicable protocols.

  • Patent number: 8005092
Abstract: A scheduler allowing high-speed scheduling scalable with the number of input and output ports of a crosspoint switch and suppressed unfairness among inputs is disclosed. The scheduler includes an M×M matrix of scheduling modules, each of which schedules packet forwarding connections from a corresponding input group of input ports to selected ones of a corresponding output group of output ports based on reservation information. A diagonal modulo pattern is used to determine a set of M scheduling modules to avoid coming into collision with each other. Each determined scheduling module performs reservation of packet forwarding connections based on current reservation information and transfers updated reservation information in row and column directions of the M×M matrix.

  • Patent number: 8000295
Abstract: There are disclosed a random access method for establishing an individual channel between a radio communication terminal device and a base station device in a short time and a radio communication terminal device executing the random access method. In this device, in step ST320, a RACH sub-channel allocation unit (211) allocates a transmission packet inputted from a replication unit (202) to an arbitrary sub-carrier at the RACH arbitrary time slot at random. In step ST330, an allocation unit (210) judges whether an overlap is generated in the allocation result obtained by the RACH sub-channel allocation unit (211). When the allocation unit (210) judges that an overlap is generated in the allocation result, the allocation unit (210) causes one of the RACH sub-channel allocation units (211) which has caused the overlap to again perform allocation of step ST320. On the other hand, when judgment is made that no overlap is generated in the allocation result, step ST340 is executed.

  • Patent number: 7995520
Abstract: The present invention provides a wireless communication system and a terminal. A base station notifies terminals of an intensity of a received interference power. The terminal controls a transmission power for transmitting data to the base station, which is one of base stations and to which data is to be transmitted, by referencing an intensity of interference power (OSI) notified from base stations to which data is not to be transmitted. The terminal calculates a decision value for increasing/decreasing the transmission power, wherein the decision value is variable according to the current transmission power of the terminal and propagation attenuations between the terminal and the base stations to which data is not to be transmitted, and variably controls the amount of transmission power increase/decrease according to the decision value for increasing/decreasing a transmission power.

  • Patent number: 7986717
Abstract: A transmitting system inserts runt abort packets in an outgoing data stream during idle time inter-frame time fill. The runt abort packets cause the receiving system to synchronize itself to the transmitting system so that even if an error during inter-frame time fill causes the receiving system to go into an erroneous state, the receiving system will be synchronized with the transmitting system before receiving valid data. In one embodiment, the transmitting system transmits data in packets over SONET. The packet data is scrambled at the transmitting end and descrambled at the receiving end. Runt abort packets sent during inter-frame time fill resynchronize the descrambler. If there is an error in the inter-frame time fill bytes, causing the receiving end descrambler to no longer be synchronized with the transmitting end scrambler, the runt abort packets will cause the descrambler to resynchronize state with the transmitting scrambler.

  • Patent number: 7983307
Abstract: A hybrid terminal of a mobile phone and a digital broadcast receiver allows calling on the mobile phone while at the same time receiving a digital broadcast itself even in the event of receiving a call while at the same time receiving the digital broadcast. Upon receiving a call while at the same time receiving a digital broadcast, a caption within the digital broadcast is decoded and displayed. When the user presses a call start/end button, an analog path is switched to an audio telephone path so as to start a call and the broadcast caption is also decoded and displayed. When the user presses the call start/end button to end a call, the audio path is switched to a digital broadcast audio path, and decoding and display of the broadcast caption is stopped.

  • Patent number: 7978598
Abstract: A standby content switch module maintains a connection after failure of the active CSM by maintaining a replicate connection state of the connection state of the active CSM. The active CSM transmits a replicate TCP SYN segment to the standby CSM to replicate a connection state on the standby CSM. The replicate SYN is constructed to appear to originate from the client originating the connection to the active CSM. The replicate SYN further includes encoded information enabling the standby CSM to distinguish the replicate SYN from an actual SYN. The replicate SYN frame contains information needed to create a connection state on the standby CSM that is a replica of the connection state on the active CSM.

  • Patent number: 7974282
Abstract: For continuing multicast data transfer according to path control information after being switched from an active status to a standby status, it is necessary that the standby status hold the same path control information as the active status. However, a synchronization of the path control information thereof is not guaranteed. To solve the above-mentioned problem, this invention provides a data transfer apparatus coupled to a network, including a plurality of interfaces for transmitting and receiving data, in which the data transfer apparatus is configured to: create transfer destination information for correlating a destination of the data with the interfaces for transmitting the data to be transmitted to the destination; and transmit, upon reception of multicast data via one of the interfaces before being judged that the transfer destination information has been created, the multicast data from at least one of the interfaces irrespective of the transfer destination information.

  • Patent number: 7969918
Abstract: A slave communication device in a wireless LAN system uses a single wireless channel. When a telephone apparatus outside the network originates a call to the LAN, the originated call first terminates at a master communication device. A wireless telephone communication can then be established between that telephone apparatus and the slave communication device without relaying through the master communication device, and without requiring particular processing, such as authentication on a host station side. A first state is when a transmission/reception device of the master communication device is turned on and transmission/reception devices of slave communication devices are turned off. A second state is when the transmission/reception device of the master communication device is turned off and only the transmission/reception device of one of the slave communication devices which is a subject of control delegation is turned on.
