Abstract: High shrinkage polyester fibers having good strength and uniform dyeability are disclosed, along with a method of producing the high shrinkage polyester fibers, by drawing a feeder yarn having a birefringence (n) of at least 0.0175 at a temperature below the glass transition temperature for the polyester and with carefully controlled draw ratios.
Abstract: The present invention relates to water-soluble copolymerized polyester resin suitable to produce a polyester film having a good adhesion and surface properties. That is, the composition of the present invention comprise 50.about.85 mol % of aromatic dicarbonic acid, 0.5.about.25 mol % of aromatic dicarbonic acid containing sulfonic acid alkali metallic base and 0.5.about.25 mol % of dicarbonic acid containing silane system represented by the following formula (I) in the total dicorbonic acid components, wherein the glycol components contained in the composition comprising more than 60 mol % of aliphatic or alicyclic glycol and 1.about.40 mol % of diethylene glycol or triethylene glycol. ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 is aliphatic hydrocarbon group of 1 to 15 carbon atoms, R.sub.2 is aliphatic hydrocarbon group of 1 to 4 carbon atoms.
Abstract: In a process for the manufacture of shaped polyethylene terephthalate structures, such as film or fiber, a crystalline sodium aluminosilicate molecular sieve is used as the catalyst for the polymerization of di(2-hydroxyethyl phthalate) or higher oligomer intermediate. In film, especially for audio and video tapes, the molecular sieve serves both as the catalyst and as a slip additive. In addition to the fact that this process eliminates antimony trioxide, heretofore used as the polymerization catalyst, the polyethylene terephthalate film made by the process of this invention has considerably fewer defects such as microgel inclusions, black specks, and pimples. Further, the amount of diethylene glycol formed in the process is reduced. Finally, polyethylene terephthalate degradation, contributing to the exudation of lower molecular weight materials, also is reduced.
Abstract: A liquid coating composition is provided which comprises, as a binder, an addition polymer containing on average 2 or more pendant activated unsaturated groups and, as a crosslinking agent, a compound containing on average 2 or more primary amino groups. The pendant activated unsaturated groups of the addition polymer are based upon fumaric, maleic and/or itaconic acid and/or anhydrides thereof. The liquid coating compositions of the present invention provide the particular advantage of rapid cure at ambient temperatures.
