  • Patent number: 4947215
Abstract: An apparatus which transfers a liquid image from an image support surface to a sheet. A deformable cylindrical member made from a flexible, dielectric material presses the sheet against the image support surface. As the cylindrical member presses the sheet against the image support surface, it deforms to define a transfer area. A conductive roll, disposed interiorly of the cylindrical member in the transfer area, tacks the liquid image to the image support surface. A corona generating device, positioned adjacent the conductive roll interiorly of the cylindrical member, transfers the liquid image from the image support surface to the sheet.

  • Patent number: 4943863
Abstract: An electrographic printer for printing an image on a continuous printing sheet having a leading edge and a tail edge, the printer including a photosensitive drum, a tractor for feeding the continuous printing sheet to the photosensitive drum, a guide member positioned at an image transfer position and disposed movable toward and away from the photosensitive drum for providing an intimate contact of the printing sheet with the photosensitive drum so as to transfer a toner image on the drum to the printing sheet, a fixing section for fixing a transferred toner image on the printing sheet, a sheet stacker and a feed roller for feeding an image fixed sheet to the sheet stacker, and means for changing a gap between the guide member and the photosensitive drum. The changing means enlarges the gap until the leading edge of the printing sheet passes through the feed roller, and reduces the gap after the leading edge passes through the feed roller.

  • Patent number: 4941020
Abstract: Apparatus for transferring a toner image to a receiving sheet includes a transfer member with vacuum holes. To enhance the continuity of the transfer electric field, a conductive screen is placed on top of the vacuum holes. According to a preferred embodiment, the screen is conductive across the path of the receiving sheet, but insulative parallel to such path.

  • Patent number: 4937631
Abstract: An improved heating roller type fusing unit for a copy machine is disclosed in which a guide plate and a guide roller are added to the existing fusing unit consisting of a heating roller and a pressing roller. The guide plate performs the function of conveying the paper to the nip portion, while the guide roller performs the function of applying a lateral tension on the paper before the paper enters into the nip portion, with the result that the nip portion has only to carry out the fusing function.

  • Patent number: 4928136
Abstract: An image forming apparatus which comprises a photoreceptor medium supported for rotation in one direction, a charging device for forming an electrostatic latent image on the photoreceptor medium, a plurality of developing devices disposed in fact-to-face relationship with the photoreceptor medium for developing the electrostatic latent image into a visible powder image, a transfer charger for transferring the powder image onto a copying sheet, a sheet transport system for supplying the copying sheet to a transfer station where the transfer charger is dispose, a detector for detecting the color of toner material contained in each of the developing devices, and a control circuitry for causing one of the developing devices to apply the toner material of a particular color to a portion of the photoreceptor medium, which corresponds in position to a leading edge of the copying sheet, in the event that such one of the developing devices is detected as containing the toner material of that particular color.

  • Patent number: 4922294
Abstract: An image forming apparatus equipped with a sensor for detecting the requirement of replenishment and exchange of expendable supplies, parts and the like and an image forming structure capable of forming on the same sheet of paper a prewarning image in addition to a regular image formed corresponding to an original or image information to be copied. The image forming structure receives different control depending on whether or not the sensor is detecting the requirement of replenishment and exchange, wherein if the sensor is not detecting the requirement, it forms only a regular image while when the sensor detects the requirement, it forms a prewarning image together with a regular image thereby indicating the requirement of replenishment and exchange by the prewarning image on the same sheet on which a regular image is formed.

  • Patent number: 4918488
Abstract: Scavenging apparatus for removing substantially all unwanted particles from the image and non-image areas of an electrostatographic imaging member without appreciable adverse effects on the desired image remaining thereon, includes an alternating pole magnetic roller for rotatably creating a fast changing magnetic field, a stationary ac biased shell for enclosing the magnetic roller and for creating a low, but fast changing electrostatic field, and a low vacuum system. This apparatus combines the effects of such magnetic and electrostatic fields with those of the low vacuum system to gently loosen and effectively remove unwanted particles from the imaging member, without resort to relatively strong electrostatic field and vacuum values that are likely to adversely affect the desired loose toner image still on the imaging member.

  • Patent number: 4908663
Abstract: An electrophotographic copying machine includes a standard index board, a copy mode selection switch, an optical system, a photosensitive drum, an erase lamp, sheet feed rollers, and toner density adjustment switch. The standard index board is disposed adjacent to an original table. The copy mode selection switch selects a binding margin copy mode or a normal copy mode. The optical system scans the standard index board first and then scans the standard index board and an image portion of an original after the optical system returns to its home position in a binding margin copy mode. The photosensitive drum sequentially forms first and second latent images of the standard index board and a latent image of the image portion of the original thereon in response to light incident from the optical system. The erase lamp erases the second latent image of the standard index board of the latent images formed on the photosensitive drum.
