  • Patent number: 9282468
Abstract: A communication device, a communication method and a communication system that enable an increase in channel capacity at cell edges of a plurality of cells. Data transmission is implemented by transmission stations, which are base stations of adjacent cells, by MIMO transmission. A relay station receives radio waves that are transmitted by both the transmission station and the transmission station, and acquires data transmitted by the transmission station and data transmitted by the transmission station. The relay station transmits data to reception stations in adjacent cells according to multi-user MIMO transmission. The data transmitted by the transmission station is received by the reception station via the relay station, and the data transmitted by the transmission station is received by the reception station via the relay station. The present invention can be used in cellular systems.

  • Patent number: 9232426
Abstract: The re-transmission of transmission units (TUs) received in a communication device over a communication link is controlled to improve the information carrying capacity of the link. A received TU has an associated service characteristic indicative of a quality of service (QOS) for the TU. The service characteristic is associated with a select set of key performance indicators (KPIs), such as measures of packet error, packet delay, packet delay variation, and/or packet loss experienced by TUs on the communication link. Upon receipt of a TU, the performance of the communication link is evaluated with respect to each KPI in the select set to obtain a corresponding measurement value, and the measurement values are compared to corresponding threshold values. Upon determining that a determined performance value does not satisfy a corresponding threshold value for a KPI in the select set, re-transmission of the TU is requested.

  • Patent number: 9210103
Abstract: A packet is received at an ingress port of a network device. A set of user defined bytes corresponding to the packet are populated with data included in or associated with the packet. One or more user defined bytes are selected, from the set of user defined bytes, to be used in a key for the packet. An ordering of the selected user defined bytes to be used for generating the key is specified. The key is generated using the selected user defined bytes and according to the ordering of the selected user defined bytes specified for the key. A processing action for the packet is determined based on the key. The network device processes the packet using the processing action.

  • Patent number: 9167439
Abstract: In a wireless multi-hop network, packet routing paths are determined for a first node device based on passive measurement of data messages over a wireless link formed between the first node device and a neighboring second node device. The first node device transmits a first data message to the second node device via the wireless link. At least one of the first node device and the second node device monitors at least one transmission performance parameter corresponding to only a selected subset of frames of the first data message. The selected subset of frames has structural similarity to selected subsets of frames of other data messages communicated and monitored by other node devices of the network. A link cost associated with the wireless link is determined based on at least one transmission performance parameter value produced as a result of the monitoring, which can be used to update the packet routing paths.

  • Patent number: 9167444
Abstract: A method is provided for managing heterogeneous cellular networks. The method comprises obtaining measurement reports from wireless entities relating to the intensity at which signals are received by each wireless entity; based on these measurement reports, and/or on geographical information of HetNet elements, identifying a macro cell located at the vicinity of the small cells; selecting one of the small cells to be a gateway cell, and other small cells to be inner cells. The gateway cell is a small cell that receives, or mobile terminals connected thereto receive, signals transmitted by the macro cell at an intensity being at least similar to intensity at which these signals are received at the inner cells; identifying physical layer identifiers (PLIs) used at the macro cell; and determining PLIs for the gateway cell which are not currently used by the macro cell, and PLIs available for use by the inner cells.

  • Patent number: 9088511
Abstract: Methods, apparatus and network architectures relating to the use of a Hop-by-Hop packet forwarding technique using “stepping stone” switches. The network architectures include use of stepping stone switches interspersed with non-stepping stone switches such as conventional network switches comprising network elements such switches, routers, repeaters, etc. The stepping stone switches are configured to route packets as multiplexed flows along tunneled sub-paths between stepping stone switches in a hop-by-hop manner with error recovery, as opposed to conventional routing under which packets are routed from a source to a destination using an arbitrary path or along a (generally) lengthy flow-based path. Accordingly, packets from a source endpoint are routed to a destination endpoint via multiple sub-paths connecting pairs of stepping stone switches, with each sub-path traversing one or more conventional switches and constituting a logical Hop in the Hop-by-Hop route.
