Abstract: A method implemented on a mobile device that starts by receiving a temperature reading from a sensor included on the mobile device. The temperature reading is compared to a threshold temperature and a power cap is set when the temperature reading is greater than the threshold temperature. The power cap is a maximum transmission power of the mobile device. The method then determines if the mobile device is transmitting a critical message. The power cap is released for a period of time if the power cap is set and the mobile device is determined to be sending a critical message. Other embodiments are also described.

Abstract: A method in a radio network node (105) for handling handover of a user equipment (110) from a first cell (115) to a second cell (120) is provided. Abstract: Techniques for supporting positioning of user equipments (UEs) with network-based measurements are described. In one design, a network entity (e.g., a location server) may obtain at least one measurement for a UE, e.g., a power headroom measurement, a spatial direction measurement, an uplink timing measurement, an uplink pilot measurement, an observed time difference of arrival (OTDOA) measurement, or a combination thereof. The network entity may determine a location estimate for the UE based on the at least one measurement for the UE and a database of measurements for different locations, e.g., using pattern matching or interpolation. In one design, the network entity may receive measurements and locations of a plurality of UEs and may update the database based on the measurements and locations of these UEs. The database may also be updated based on measurements obtained by test UEs during test drives.
Abstract: This patent discloses a method to communicate between a femtocell base station and mobile devices. The method may include identifying as an alert group a set of mobile devices presently in communication with the femtocell base station and whose unique identifiers are preregistered with the femtocell base station. A first mobile device and a second mobile device may be in the set of femtocell service region mobile devices. The femtocell base station may receive a call from a third mobile device. If the call is for the second mobile device, then the method may send a paging message from the femtocell base station. The paging message may include a first unique identifier associated with the first mobile device.
Abstract: A mobile participation platform enables a wireless network operator or third party to solicit response data related to a specific time and location specific event by signaling multiple mobile device users that meet predefined qualifications. The qualifications include presence at the specific location at the specific time, and may include other characteristics, such as prior consent to receive solicitations, and particular device type or data collection functionality. The platform locates mobile devices that may qualify for participation, and generates and transmits a solicitation. Mobile devices receiving the solicitation may activate a participation client to acknowledge the solicitation and to contribute by submitting the requested response data, which may include photos, text, sensor data, audio, video and the like.

Abstract: A system, method and software application track call failures on a wireless phone. A software application on the phone monitors outbound calls made on the phone to determine whether or not a call fails. In one embodiment, such monitoring is done only for a select period of time (e.g., the initial few seconds when the phone is attempting to connect to a call to the wireless communication carrier's network), and, in an alternate embodiment, such monitoring is done for the duration of the call. If a call fails, the software application stores information related to the call. Examples of such types of information include the time the call failed, the location of the phone at call failure, and identification information for the phone. The stored call information is then sent to the wireless communication carrier to enable the carrier to assess network quality.
