Abstract: Liquid amine terminated polyamide addition products having an average molecular weight of about 3,000 to about 10,000 are prepared by the non-catalytic reaction of a dicarboxylic acid having a molecular weight within the range of about 130 to about 700 with a higher molecular weight polyoxypropylene diamine having an average molecular weight within the range of about 1,500 to about 6,000 and with a lower molecular weight polyoxypropylene diamine having an average molecular weight within the range of about 200 to about 700, the reaction conditions including a temperature within the range of about 150.degree. to about 280.degree. C., a pressure of about 0.1 to 20 atmospheres and a reaction time of about 2 to about 5 hours.
Abstract: The bis-homotris compounds 4-amino-4-[1-(3-hydroxypropyl)]-1,7-heptanediol and 4-[1-(3-aminopropyl)]-4-[1-(3-hydroxypropyl)]-1, 7-heptanediol, and organic synthetic methods for their preparation are described. Unique multifunctional aminotriols, as well as their percursors, quaternary nitroalkanes are disclosed as building blocks for unimolecular micelles, as well as new series of cascade polymers. The quaternary nitro compounds which are disclosed allow the synthesis of a new aminotriol containing a quaternary carbon.

Abstract: A process of preparing a mixture of polyalkylenepolyamines and alkanolpolyamines comprising contacting a difunctional aliphatic alcohol with a primary or secondary aliphatic amine in the presence of a metal silicate catalyst wherein the metal is selected from the group consisting of Groups IIA, IIIB, and the lanthanide and actinide metals. For example, monoethanolamine reacts with diethylenetriamine in the presence of magnesium silicate to yield a mixture of higher molecular weight linear and branched polyethylenepolyamines and their corresponding alkanolpolyamines. These product mixtures are useful in the formation of specialty polyurethanes.

Abstract: A process for the preparation of permethylated amines, particularly pentamethyldiethylenetriamine, by the reductive methylation of diethylenetriamine in the presence of hydrogen, a nickel-containing catalyst, aqueous formaldehyde and methanol, comprising feeding continuously the formalehyde to the reaction system in two phases. In the first phase, a sufficient amount of formaldehyde to mono-methylate the primary amine groups present, is fed to the reaction system at a high flow rate, and thereafter the flow rate of the formaldehyde is substantially reduced, for the reductive methylation of the secondary amine groups. By this method the production of by-products is substantially reduced and preparation times are significantly shorter in comparison to processes where the formaldehyde flow rate remains constantly high for the entirety of the reaction.
Abstract: There is provided an improved process for the reduction of optionally substituted dinitrobenzenes to the corresponding nitroanilines with high yields which comprises contacting the dinitrobenzene with hydrogen in an acidic medium in the presence of a catalytic amount of a combination of a noble metal hydrogenation catalyst, and iron or an iron salt. Isomer specific reductions may be achieved with those compounds containing suitable directing substituents.The 2-halo-5-nitroanilines which may be produced in this process may be converted via a multi-step synthesis to useful 1-aryl-4-substituted 1,4-dihydro-5H-tetrazol-5-one herbicides.
Abstract: A process for the preparation of amino halogeno aromatic compounds, according to which a halogenonitro-aromatic compound is brought into the presence of a nickel-, cobalt- or iron-based catalyst, preferably nickel-based, and, more preferably, Raney nickel, in the presence of an effective amount of iodide, at a temperature and hydrogen pressure sufficient to form said halogenoamino-aromatic compound.
