  • Patent number: 5846159
Abstract: A control for confirming disengagement of a disengaging gear ratio (GR). Signals indicative of input shaft speed (ES or IS) are compared to signals indicative of output shaft rotational speed (OS) to determine if the quotient of input shaft rotational speed to output shaft rotational speed (IS/OS) remains outside an increasing-sized window (GR.+-.error, GR.+-.2*error, GR.+-.3*error).

  • Patent number: 5842378
Abstract: A mechanism for mounting a forward pedal and a reverse pedal to a vehicle. The forward pedal is fixed to a primary shaft, and the reverse pedal is fixed to a secondary shaft. A control arm and control rod operatively extend between the primary shaft and a transmission. A linkage extends between the reverse pedal and the primary shaft for pivoting the primary shaft and shifting the control rod in reverse directions such that the transmission shifts to reverse modes when the operator engages the reverse pedal. The linkage includes a reverse arm coupled with the primary shaft, and a reverse link extending between the reverse arm and the reverse pedal. A bracket member fixed to a floor plate of the vehicle supports the primary and secondary shafts, and is fixed to the vehicle generally directly beneath the foot of the operator. The bracket member supports each shaft at at least two locations laterally spaced a substantial distance.

  • Patent number: 5836216
Abstract: An inertial mass device is realized with at least two inertial masses which can rotate relative to one another, one of which is connected to a hub disc which is effectively connected to elastic elements of a damping device and preferably with its radially inner area forms a hub for the location of a bearing arrangement. Corresponding to the hub disc there is at least one planet wheel of a planetary gear train which acts between the inertial masses. The hub disc, on its side facing away from the planet wheel, on a specified radius around its axis of rotation, has indentations formed in the peripheral direction at specified intervals, each of which indentations forms a projection toward the planet wheel on the opposite side of the hub disc, whereby the projections form a toothing on the hub disc, by means of which the hub disc is engaged with the toothing of the planet wheel for the transmission of a torque between the inertial masses.

  • Patent number: 5833573
Abstract: A speed change control system for use in an automatic transmission includes a one-way clutch to be locked and to retain a rotary element in a speed change mechanism for establishing a predetermined gear stage and an engine braking frictional engagement element arrayed in parallel with the one-way clutch and adapted to retain the rotary element, thereby establishing the desired gear stage. The speed change control system further includes a throttle opening detector for detecting the stroke of depression of the accelerator pedal of a vehicle, a downshift detector for detecting a shift to a desired gear stage and an apply pressure controller for controlling the apply pressure of the engine braking frictional engagement element. A speed change decision is made to determine whether a speed change is ended for a predetermined time period, if the throttle opening is in a predetermined region and if the detected shift is a downshift to the desired gear stage.

  • Patent number: 5833572
Abstract: A torque management apparatus for an automatic transmission of an internal combustion engine. The apparatus includes a sensor for sensing shifting of the transmission to a Neutral mode. An engine limiting means is operatively connected to a sensor for limiting the speed of the engine in response to the sensor, which senses the shifting of the transmission into or from the Neutral mode. Also, an engine delimiting means is operatively connected to the sensor and to the engine limiting means for returning the engine to a normal throttle speed in response to shifting of the transmission out of the Neutral mode. The engine limiting means and the engine delimiting means minimize stress on the transmission due to the engagement and disengagement of the transmission components caused by the shifting of the transmission in and out of a Neutral mode.

  • Patent number: 5829313
Abstract: An apparatus for operating a bicycle transmission shifting device having an operating component for mounting to a bicycle in close proximity to a brake operating unit for alternately pulling and releasing a transmission element, a first lever is mounted to the operating component for movement which causes the operating component to pull the transmission element and second lever is mounted to the operating component for movement which cause the operating component to release the transmission element. The first lever and the second lever are mounted to the operating component so that the brake operating unit is disposed between the first lever and the second lever when the shifting device is mounted to the bicycle. In order to be able to construct the shifting device with only a single pawl for the release mechanism the takeup element for the transmission element includes a control member having a plurality of large and small position retaining teeth for engaging the single release pawl.

  • Patent number: 5809836
Abstract: In a shift device for a change speed gearbox, a shift shaft is kinematically connected to a selector sleeve which can be optionally braked tight, in such a way that when the selector sleeve is braked tight, axial movements of the shift shaft lead to superimposed rotational movements of the shift shaft, whereas when the selector sleeve is not braked, they lead to rotational movements of the selector sleeve.

  • Patent number: 5809845
Abstract: A housing for an axle driving apparatus which is partitioned therein through an inner wall into a first chamber for housing therein a hydrostatic transmission and a second chamber for housing therein a drive train for transmitting power outputted from the hydrostatic transmission to axles. An oil filter is disposed between the first chamber and the second chamber. The first chamber and the second chamber are filled with oil which can flow between the first chamber and the second chamber through an oil filter, whereby the volume of oil, which varies as the temperature of the oil in the first chamber rises or lowers, can be adjusted.

  • Patent number: 5794749
Abstract: A temperature-responsive fluid-type fan coupling has a sealing casing with a partition plate disposed therein. The partition plate divides interior portions of the casing into an oil reservoir chamber and a torque transmission chamber. A port extends through the partition plate to provide communication between the chambers. The casing is rotatably mounted around a rotary shaft such that an end of the shaft is disposed in the torque transmission chamber. A drive disc is fixedly mounted to the shaft and is disposed in the torque transmission chamber. Fluid in the torque transmission chamber functions to transmit torque from the disc to the casing. The valve member has one end mounted to the partition plate and an opposed end movably positioned in proximity to the port through the partition plate. Intermediate portions of the valve member are engaged by a pin, which in turn is movable in response to a temperature-responsive member. The valve member is biased to instantaneously open and close at set temperatures.

  • Patent number: 5792023
Abstract: A method for controlling engagement of an automatic transmission in response to manual operation of a gear shift lever by the vehicle operator includes determining the instantaneous position of the PRNDL shift lever and checking whether that position has changed since the last execution of the control algorithm. Next the method determines whether the gear shift lever has moved from the neutral position to the drive position or whether it is moved from the drive position to the neutral position since the last execution of the program. In response to these checks, various flags are set and an engagement timer is loaded to a predetermined period. Finally the method passes the shift lever position to a microprocessor depending on the state of the flags, expiration of the timer and the vehicle speed or turbine speed.
