    Abstract: The body (4) of the hook (1) has a passage (6) for receiving a transverse bar, which passage terminates in an aperture (7) and extends throughout the length of the body. The hook (1) includes a curved strip portion (5) for retaining an osteosynthesis rod which is connected to the body (4) in a region of said aperture (7). The height of the aperture (7) exceeds the thickness of the bar. The strip portion (5) has a width substantially equal to the width of the body (4) and edge portions (9) of the passage (6) are so shaped as to define sliding ramps for the rod which are inclined toward the interior of the strip portion (5). The arrangement of the hook ensures a trapping of the rod which improves the safety of the device in use and reduces the overall size of the hook.

    Abstract: The present invention provides an external skeletal fixator for treating an injured mammalian limb. The fixator has a plurality of transfixation pins which pass through the intact bone of the injured limb proximal to the injured bone. These pins extend beyond the outer edges of the intact bone. These pins are supported by support members which abut the intact bone, extending through the soft tissue. These support members are, in turn, supported by a superstructure capable of supporting the weight of the animal, which superstructure extends beyond the distal end of the injured limb. Thus in the case of a weight bearing limb, the weight of the animal is transferred from the intact bone to the pins, to the supporting members, to the superstructure, to the ground, thus bypassing the injured bone.

    Abstract: The instrumentation set of this invention assists the surgeon in selecting the proper implant components, in determining the amount of distal bone to resect, and in aligning instrumentation designed to resect the bone. The instrumentation set provides numerous systems for verifying to the surgeon that he has correctly aligned the instruments prior to removing any bone.The set includes a rotational alignment guide, which aids the surgeon in establishing the appropriate rotational alignment for the knee as determined by reference to standard femoral landmarks such as the posterior condyles and epicondyles. The rotational alignment guide includes a slot for guiding a saw blade for removal of the posterior condyles of the femur.The set further includes a tensor designed to tense the knee joint in flexion and extension. The tensor is activated by a torque wrench so that a measured amount of tension force can be applied to the joint.

The auxiliary fixation piece has a coupling element located at one end thereof and a threaded through hole located at another end thereof. The screw is composed of a head, a second threaded portion engageable with the threaded through hole of the auxiliary fixation piece, and a first threaded portion intended to fasten onto a vertebra to be fixed or vertebrae contiguous to the vertebra. The vertebral auxiliary fixation device is employed in conjunction with a vertebra fixation device.

    Abstract: A medullary reaming system includes a flexible, hollow, tubular shaft formed of a nickel-titanium alloy having one end coupled to a rotary drive and having the other end coupled to a cutting head by means of a male connector on the shaft engageable in a female connector on the head. The female connector is a tubular shank with diametrically opposed slots in the outer surface thereof, while the male connector has flexible arms with latch tabs engageable in the slots to latch the head to the shaft. A support has a plurality of notches for respectively storing cutting heads. The head shank is received in the notch with the notch edges received in the shank slots, so that when the male connector on the shaft is inserted into the shank the notch edges prevent latching of the head to the shaft until the head is removed from the support.
