Abstract: New authentication features are proposed that are visible, can be authenticated with a mobile equipment and yet are challenging to counterfeit. In a possible embodiment, the surface of the authentication feature may have three-dimensional characteristics, which can be recognized by a handheld camera, such as a smartphone camera, while it cannot be easily reproduced by a simple scan and print procedure. In a further possible embodiment, at least two different viewpoints of the authentication feature may be acquired using a smartphone camera and the resulting images may be analyzed using the smartphone processor to identify the three-dimensional characteristics of the authentication feature. The manufacturing of the feature may be performed at a low cost by embossing the three dimensional structure on a surface. The authentication feature may be carried by a self-adhesive label or directly embedded on the product packaging.
Abstract: When performing inspection of a tip of a suction nozzle, the tip of the suction nozzle is imaged, and an opening of the tip of the suction nozzle is identified based on the image data. With the image based on the image data, locations with less than a set brightness level inside a location with the set brightness level and greater is identified as the opening. The identified opening is divided into four regions by boundary lines, and the area of the opening is calculated for each of the regions. Based on the areas calculated for each region, it is determined whether the suction nozzle is good. By determining whether the suction nozzle is good based on the area of the opening for each region, it is possible to reliably determine whether the suction nozzle is good.

Abstract: Tracking units for facial features with advanced training for natural rendering of human faces in real-time are provided. An example device receives a video stream, and upon detecting a visual face, selects a 3D model from a comprehensive set of head orientation classes. The device determines modifications to the selected 3D model to describe the face, then projects a 2D model of tracking points of facial features based on the 3D model, and controls, actuates, or animates hardware based on the facial features tracking points. The device can switch among an example comprehensive set of 35 different head orientation classes for each video frame, based on suggestions computed from a previous video frame or from yaw and pitch angles of the visual head orientation. Each class of the comprehensive set is trained separately based on a respective collection of automatically marked images for that head orientation class.

Abstract: The present invention provides a contact determination device, control device, contact determination system, contact determination method, and contact determination program. This contact determination device acquires position information and/or posture information for a target person. Further, the state of movement of a part to be calculated in the body of the target person is calculated on the basis of acquired movement information and a body model relating to the shape of the body of the target person, said body model having been recorded in advance. Meanwhile, an electrical change is detected. Then, the contact determination device determines the state of contact between the target person and the object to be controlled on the basis of the detected electrical change and the state of movement of the part to be calculated in the body of the target person.

Abstract: A method for scanning for borders in an image represented by pixels, the method including a first operation comprising: estimating an attribute for each of a first set of two adjacent pixel positions in the image; assessing whether a predetermined binary condition differs in respect of the two pixel positions, and if so determining that a border is present in the part of the image represented by pixels at those positions; and if a border is determined to be present in that part of the image, estimating the direction of the border as being perpendicular to a line joining the positions of the two pixels; and initiating tracing the border in that direction.
Abstract: A surveillance camera system and method is disclosed. The system includes one or more surveillance cameras that capture images of scenes, and one or more calibration systems that automatically generate ground planes from the captured images from the surveillance cameras. Foreground objects in the scenes are then analyzed against the ground planes to determine whether the ground planes may require updating and/or recalculation.

Abstract: Image modification using detected symmetry is described. In example implementations, an image modification module detects multiple local symmetries in an original image by discovering repeated correspondences that are each related by a transformation. The transformation can include a translation, a rotation, a reflection, a scaling, or a combination thereof. Each repeated correspondence includes three patches that are similar to one another and are respectively defined by three pixels of the original image. The image modification module generates a global symmetry of the original image by analyzing an applicability to the multiple local symmetries of multiple candidate homographies contributed by the multiple local symmetries. The image modification module associates individual pixels of the original image with a global symmetry indicator to produce a global symmetry association map.

Abstract: The disclosure includes a system and method for distinguishing between stock keeping units of similar appearance that vary in size. An image recognition application receives an image depicting a plurality of items, the image including a reference marker with a known physical dimension. The image recognition application performs image recognition to identify an item in the image and a region of interest for the identified image. The image recognition application further determines a pixel-to-physical dimension ratio using the dimension of a region of interest of the reference marker and the known physical dimension of the reference marker. Finally, the image recognition application determines a stock keeping unit identifier of the identified item in the image based on the pixel-to-physical dimension ratio and a dimension of the region of interest of the identified item.
