    Abstract: A system detection method and apparatus. Throughput and response time of a system are acquired. Throughput reflects the number of requests processed by the system that are received from outside the system. The response time reflects time required to process requests from outside the system. A system performance characteristic parameter based on the throughput and response time is obtained and used to describe congestion of the system to determine bottlenecks in the system by at least obtaining system performance characteristic parameter based on the throughput and the response time and conducting noise filtering on the system performance characteristic parameter. A bottleneck is determined based on the noise filtered system performance characteristic parameter. The system detection method and apparatus allow detecting a bottleneck and flow control are provided in a simple and effective way to ensure that requests are processed in time.

Logic of the station may wake the receive circuitry from an idle mode, which may be a less linear and less sensitive mode, to a receiver (RX) active state, which is a high linear and high sensitivity mode. Once the receiver circuitry enters the RX active state, the station is ready to receive a transmission. Logic may implement the wake frame as a medium access control frame or as a null data packet, physical layer frame.

    Abstract: The PCS and FEC layers are combined into a single layer and the number of lanes is set at four lanes. The combination allows removal of many modules as compared to a serial arrangement of a PCS layer and an FEC layer. The reduction in the number of lanes, as compared to 100 Gbps Ethernet, provides a further simplification or cost reduction by further reducing the needed gates of an ASIC to perform the functions. Changing the lanes in the FEC layer necessitates changing the alignment marker structure. In the preferred embodiment a lane zero marker is used as the first alignment marker in each lane to allow rapid sync. A second alignment marker indicating the particular lane follows the first alignment marker.

    Abstract: The FC port state machine enhanced by determining if various lanes are configured to be operated in 128 Gbps mode by operating as parallel lanes as indicated by using a reserved bit in a link training field. If so and if all of the ports are 32 Gbps ports and pass training, then four lanes can be combined to form a 128 Gbps link. If the ports are configured for 128 Gbps only operation and at least one lane does not negotiate to 32 Gbps or fails training, the link is not activated and none of the lanes are activated. If the ports are configured to do either 128 Gbps or independent operation and at least one lane cannot operate at 128 Gbps, then the lanes operate independently at the negotiated and trained speed. If the lanes are configured for only independent operation the transceiver develops independent links as negotiated.

    Abstract: A work conserving scheduler can be implemented based on a ranking system to provide the scalability of time stamps while avoiding the fast search associated with a traditional time stamp implementation. Each queue can be assigned a time stamp that is initially set to zero. The time stamp for a queue can be incremented each time a data packet from the queue is processed. To provide varying weights to the different queues, the time stamp for the queues can be incremented at varying rates. The data packets can be processed from the queues based on the tier rank order of the queues as determined from the time stamp associated with each queue. To increase the speed at which the ranking is determined, the ranking can be calculate from a subset of the bits defining the time stamp rather than the entire bit set.
