  • Patent number: 8909507
Abstract: Predicted environment conditions are received for time steps within a prediction horizon N. Information is accessed regarding expected system responses generated by a system model, each expected system response related to a different combination of control parameters and starting environment conditions applied to the model. An optimal response is designated for each combination of starting environment conditions for each time step from time step N?1 to the current time step based in part on the expected system response and the predicted environment conditions, each optimal response in a time step based at least in part on an optimal response determined for a later time step. For the current time step, for starting environment conditions substantially similar to the current environment conditions, the combination of control parameters that results in the system response designated as the optimal response is determined from the expected system responses and is applied to the system.

  • Patent number: 8874411
Abstract: A processing system, method, and program for a modeling system. A math equation including a differential equation is prepared. A CAS solves the differential equation normally and by using an interval coefficient in accordance with an interval analysis technique. A coefficient vector of the two solutions are compared to determine if a distance between the vectors is equal to or less than a preset value, and if so, the CAS solves the math equation including a differential equation with the target coefficient set to zero. The coefficient vectors of the solution thus obtained and the normally solved solution are compared to determine if the distance between the vectors is equal to or less than a preset value, and if so, the differential equation is simplified by omitting a term of the target coefficient from the differential equation.

  • Patent number: 8818784
Abstract: A method of designing a circuit can include modeling one or more circuits in a hardware design language (HDL) (102) and confirming a basic behavior of such models (104). If a basic behavior has been met, the model can be modified to include an algorithm that is based on an experimental statistical analysis of manufactured circuits representing particular condition (e.g., factor) limits (referred to as “corners”) (106). Once a circuit model has been modified to include an algorithm that can represent performance corners, a simulation can be run that will represent circuit response at such an operational corner (110).

  • Patent number: 8798966
Abstract: One embodiment relates to a method of model-based optical metrology. An area of a geometrical structure of dispersive materials on a substrate is illuminated with polarized incident electromagnetic radiation using an illuminator of a scatterometer apparatus. Spectral components of the incident electromagnetic radiation reflected from the area are measured using a detector of the scatterometer apparatus. Using a computer for the scatterometer apparatus, parameter values are determined that minimize an objective function which represents a difference between the measured spectral components and computed spectral components based on a parameterized model of the geometrical structure. Steps for determining the parameter values that minimize the objective function include: computing a solution to state equations driven by a function representing the incident electromagnetic radiation, and computing a solution to an adjoint to the state equations. Other embodiments and features are also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 8793115
Abstract: Providing a unified view of multiple computer system simulations. A simulation process has a simulation thread that executes a plurality of computer system simulations. The simulation process also has a debug support thread that provides a unified view of the simulations. To provide the unified view, the debug support thread has an external interface, an internal interface to each of the simulations, and an interface converter that converts between the external interface and the internal interfaces. Thus, the external interface provides a unified view of the simulations. The external interface allows a single debugging platform to control and observe the simulations.

  • Patent number: 8775149
Abstract: A method and mechanism for implementing a general purpose scripting language that supports parallel execution is described. In one approach, parallel execution is provided in a seamless and high-level approach rather than requiring or expecting a user to have low-level programming expertise with parallel processing languages/functions. Also described is a system and method for performing circuit simulation. The present approach provides methods and systems that create reusable and independent measurements for use with circuit simulators. Also disclosed are parallelizable measurements having looping constructs that can be run without interference between parallel iterations. Reusability is enhanced by having parameterized measurements. Revisions and history of the operating parameters of circuit designs subject to simulation are tracked.

  • Patent number: 8768679
Abstract: A computer-implemented method that simulates NPskew effects on a combination NFET (Negative Field Effect Transistor)/PFET (Positive Field Effect Transistor) semiconductor device using slew perturbations includes performing a timing test by a computing device, by: (1) evaluating perturb slews in Strong N/Weak P directions on the combination semiconductor device for a timing test result; (2) evaluation perturb slews in Weak N/Strong P directions on the combination semiconductor device for a timing test result; and (3) evaluating unperturbed slews in a balanced condition on the combination semiconductor device for a timing test result. After each test is performed, a determination is made as to which evaluation of the perturbed and unperturbed slews produces a most conservative timing test result for the combination semiconductor device. An NPskew effect adjusted timing test result is finally output based on determining the most conservative timing test result.

Also disclosed are parallelizable measurements having looping constructs that can be run without interference between parallel iterations. Reusability is enhanced by having parameterized measurements. Revisions and history of the operating parameters of circuit designs subject to simulation are tracked. Mechanisms are provided that allow for viewing, measurement or other manipulation of signals at specific locations in a circuit design for simulation, such as parameters that include observation points which are implemented using probes. One approach to executing a measurement is via a controllable and flexible control statement, which in one embodiment is the “run” statement. Improved interfaces for viewing, controlling, and manipulating simulations and simulation results are also provided.

  • Patent number: 8756040
Abstract: A method for hybrid computational fluid dynamics (CFD) approach for modeling a bounded domain, such as a data center, is disclosed. The CFD modeling approach divides the bounded domain into one or more viscous regions and one or more inviscid regions, and then performs a viscous domain solve for the viscous region(s) using a computational fluid dynamics model with turbulence equations (i.e., a turbulence model), and performs inviscid domain solve for the inviscid region(s) using a set of inviscid equations (or potential flow equations). After solving for the different regions, results of the viscous domain solve and the inviscid domain solve are provided as a model of the bounded domain.

  • Patent number: 8756037
Abstract: A computational optimization process uses the variable stiffness performance of composite laminates attributed to steered fiber to guide the design of stream functions describing the fibers to build it. This design process combines a finite element-based analysis tool, failure criteria and geometry optimization to determine steered angles associated with stream functions by an optimization program to meet target performance requirements, e.g., load condition(s), and failure criteria for quasi-static or dynamic events. The fiber angle distribution and thickness buildup are computed based on the stream function. The simulated structure is analyzed using finite element analysis. The disclosed process allows the designer to impose manufacturing constraints such as fiber steering radius.
