  • Patent number: 7547116
Abstract: A luminaire assembly generally includes a reflector having a center of symmetry and a lamp supported within the reflector, wherein the lamp is offset from the reflector center of symmetry, whereby light emitted from the lamp is reflected by the reflector in an asymmetric pattern. In a method of illuminating a roadway having traffic moving in a flow direction, a luminaire having a reflector and a lamp is mounted at a side of the roadway and light emitted from the lamp is reflected with the reflector whereby a greater portion of the reflected light is directed in the traffic flow direction than is directed against the traffic flow direction.

  • Patent number: 7540633
Abstract: In lamp unit 10 having light source lamp 1, reflector 2 for reflecting light from light source lamp 1, reflector holding member 11, and reflector cover 15, a plurality of cooling holes 18a are formed in a region of reflector holding member 11 provided with lamp unit positioner 16a. Cooling holes 18a are open toward an upper bulb area, a lower bulb area, and a cathode of the light source lamp, respectively. Stud 22a for fixing reflector holding member 11 has a throughhole extending at the center thereof, so that cooling air fed from high static pressure blower 27 can be sent to cooling holes 18 through tube 28 and the throughhole of stud 22a, thus efficiently cooling the upper bulb area, lower bulb area, and cathode of light source lamp 1 in a concentrative manner with a small amount of air. Thus, the resulting lamp unit, provided by the present invention, can reduce the amount of air required for cooling the lamp, and can use a high static pressure and small fan.

  • Patent number: 7537362
Abstract: A vehicular lighting system that enhances motorcycle visibility is provided. Vehicle front headlights, arranged so as to be laterally symmetrical, are formed in a shape of eyes capable of evoking a face. A headlight includes a circular main light forming a pupil portion, an annular ring forming an iris portion, plates each forming a sclera portion (white of eye), an upper frame forming the contour of an upper eyelid portion, and a lower frame forming the contour of a lower eyelid portion. When the main light and the plates are made to emit light, and the ring is non-light emitting, the pupil portion and the sclera portion are clearly discriminated from each other, thus enabling recognition as “eyes” not only in the daytime but also in the nighttime. The light emitting portions may be set as the main light, the upper frame and the lower frame, and the like.

  • Patent number: 7537365
Abstract: An exterior lighting system of a motor vehicle (10) has headlamps (12) and foglamps (14) for illuminating a field of view. The headlamps have lenses (26) through which light passes to illuminate the field of view and are constructed to alter the light that is directed within the headlamps toward upper zones (26A) of the lenses relative to light that is directed toward lower zones (26B) of the lenses when both headlamps and foglamps are shining onto the field of view so as to attenuate headlight glare that would otherwise be seen by a driver of the vehicle looking toward the field of view in the absence of the light alteration. Various embodiments of inventive headlamps are shown.

  • Patent number: 7524095
Abstract: A headlight for a motor vehicle comprises a light source, a mirror and a transparent optical deflection element placed in front of the mirror, the mirror being capable of cooperating with the light source in order to generate a beam delimited by an upper cut-off line, and the deflection element being capable of providing a generally horizontal spread of the light, without substantially modifying the vertical distribution of the light. This headlight is noteworthy in that the said deflection element has light input and output faces which are continuous over their entire span. It thus presents an appearance similar to that of a headlight of the elliptical type with a lens.

  • Patent number: 7520649
Abstract: A switching device for switching between low beam mode and high beam mode of a xenon headlight, comprises an electromagnetic valve fixed on a fixing piece, two light-shield pieces pivotally coupled to the fixing piece, and moveable piece. The movable piece is moved by the electromagnetic valve and then drives the light-shield pieces to rotate to the gap of the fixing piece to obstruct the light beam of the xenon lamp tube, and thus the headlight is switched to the low beam mode. When the light-shield pieces are rotated away from the gap of the fixing piece by the movable piece, the headlight is switched to the high beam mode.

  • Patent number: 7517126
Abstract: A light source structure of a backlight module includes a casing, a heat sink, a plurality of light source generators, a first reflecting element and a second reflecting element. If a light emitting component of the light source generator is lit, a spot light source of the light emitting component is passed through an optical lens in a light pipe and converted into a linear light source to be projected onto an oblique surface of the first reflecting element. The oblique surface converts the linear light source into a planar light source to be projected from an opening of a casing to an oblique surface of the second reflecting element. The oblique surface of the second reflecting element guides the planar light source into the light guide plate, such that the light in the light guide plate is diffused uniformly to provide sufficient brightness to the light guide plate.

  • Patent number: 7513669
Abstract: An apparatus having a light source, light pipe, and light conversion layer is disclosed. The light source includes a plurality of LED dies arranged in an array, each LED emitting light having an excitation wavelength, the light source emitting light within a cone of angles. The light pipe is positioned to receive the light within the cone of angles through an edge surface such that the light within the predetermined cone of angles is totally reflected from the top surface. The light pipe has features that redirect some of the light at angles such that some of the redirected light exits through the top surface. The light conversion layer overlies the top surface and converts light of the excitation wavelength to light in an output spectrum having wavelengths different from the excitation wavelength. A display layer can be placed such that it is illuminated by light from the light pipe.
