Abstract: Embodiments of the invention provide a mechanism for using name spaces in graphical user interface (GUI) page definitions. A name space designation is assigned to each control mechanism that generates definitional statements for the GUI. In one embodiment, a page control is assigned a name space designation and assigns a name space designation for each of the controls that are used to generate the page. The name space designation can be used to uniquely identify a control. The name attributes including the name space designation may be sent to a client's browser where it may be incorporated by the browser into a name-value pair when transferring data back to the control.

Abstract: The present invention provides a method and system for providing help navigation information for a computer network. The method includes identifying a plurality of registered applications; collecting a plurality of tags from the plurality of registered applications; and organizing the collected plurality of tags to provide a homogeneous, task-oriented help navigation system for the plurality of registered applications. The method provides homogeneous, dynamic help information which reflects the applications installed on a computer system. As applications are installed or removed based on customer needs and licensing changes, the content of the help system changes accordingly. This change occurs transparently to a user. The help information in the help system is organized in a task-oriented manner and displayed in a homogeneous view.

Abstract: A method for conducting a contest using a network is provided. A plurality of pick spaces, a virtual display fixture, and a plurality of virtual articles of commerce are displayed on the screen of a user computer. The user computer is disposed at a user site and operably connected to the network. Initially, the virtual articles of commerce are arrayed on the virtual display fixture. At least one of the plurality of virtual articles moves across the screen from an initial position on the virtual display fixture. Each of such moving virtual articles has a virtual target region defined thereon. Each of the virtual target regions is at least periodically visible on the associated virtual article.

Abstract: A method and computer program product is described for displaying files associated with multiple hypertext links selected from a Web page. A user selects a set of links from a Web page that contains multiple links, and the linked files are displayed in a preferred sequence without having to repeatedly return to the original Web page. In addition, files associated with these links can be downloaded while the first links are being displayed and viewed by the user. Thus, both the usability and the performance in Web browsing is improved.

Abstract: Methods, data processing systems or program products which provide a user interface capable of inserting a reference marker at a point within an application window, causing a first representation of the reference marker to be displayed at that point and a second representation of the reference marker to be displayed in a scroll bar area within the application window which precisely corresponds to the location of the point. A pointing operation can be performed on the second representation of the reference marker causing the first representation of the reference marker along with the operating point to immediately appear within the application window. Additional reference markers may be inserted at additional points within the application window allowing the user to immediately find and display any point within the application window that the user has referenced with a reference marker.

Abstract: A GUI control for entering a user selection from a list of possible selections in which the user can “spin” through a list of items shown on preview and postview option lists. The control allows the user to spin forwards and backwards, with a preview list of items and a postview list of items being displayed on opposing sides of the currently selected item dialog box. By providing visibility to the upcoming and recently past selections during the spin, a user can operate the spin control at a higher speed, thereby reducing the amount of time necessary to find the desired item on the list.

Abstract: Apparatus for accessing a displayable information resource and tailoring retrieved information to a user's requirements comprises a tag reader (18), a decoder (34) for identifying a coded resource address (38) carried by a tag (28), and access means for accessing the identified resource. A display means (14, 22, 24, 48) displays information loaded from the accessed information resource. The disclosed embodiment employs printed RF tag technology, and the information resource is an Internet, intranet or extranet resource whose address (38) is a URL. The disclosed apparatus is embodied in an item of furniture, more specifically a table (10, 52). The tag reader (18) reads a tag (28) when a tagged item (26) is placed onto a support surface (14), and a display is presented by the support surface (14). The tagged item can, for example, be a product or its packaging, a ticket or token, or a letter or information sheet.

When the hyperlink help message is selected, a computer program product which selects an appropriate tab is executed. The respective tab corresponds to a possible reason why the deactivated display control is deactivated. The computer program product also highlights a respective display control included in the selected tab, which corresponds to the possible reason why the deactivated display control is deactivated.

Abstract: A graphic interface device and method in a digital TV. The graphic interface device includes: a transmitting side for coding various forms of user graphic environment which can be selected by an end user, assigning specific packet identification (PID), and multiplexing the assigned PID with video information, audio information and additional information; and a receiving side for parsing and decoding the various forms of graphic environment data of the specific PID transmitted from the transmitting side to be displayed on a screen, thereby being selected by the end user and for parsing and decoding once again the corresponding graphic environment selected by the end user to be displayed on the screen. Thus, the end user can select the graphic environment satisfying his own preference, for example, a dynamic program guide pattern or menu icon.

Abstract: An on-object user interface (OOUI) for presenting information and controls to a user in response to an automatic action performed by an application program. The OOUI is associated with object that was subject to the automatic action. The OOUI comprises a first graphical indicator, a second graphical indicator and a context menu. The first graphical indicator is displayed in proximity to the object, in order to indicate that the automatic action was performed. The automatic action may comprise an auto-correct or an auto-format action. The automatic action may also comprise the setting of a property relating to formatting or positioning of the object in response to a user-initiated action. When user interaction with the first graphical indicator is detected, the first graphical indicator is changed to the second graphical indicator, which indicates that a context menu is available.
