Abstract: A novel woven fabric is provided wherein preferably two unidirectional mutually offset and at least partly overlapping layers of tape-like warps interlace with tape-like wefts, at least some being fibrous tapes, that are incorporated individually in either non-overlapping manner or in a mutually offset and overlapping manner relative to other weft tapes. Such a woven fabric is without see-through gaps at the areas/sites encircled by intersecting tape-like warps and wefts, and also delamination resistant. It is particularly suitable for composite material, ballistic mitigation, and similar applications.
Abstract: There is provided an impregnated natural fiber including a cuticle and an interior lumen, the cuticle circumscribing the interior lumen; and insoluble particulates possessing a preselected property embedded in the fiber. The particulates comprise at least 0.1-30 wt. % of the impregnated fiber and the particulates are embedded on the cuticle and within the lumen of the fiber. The fiber has an increased strength, micronaire value and rate of water absorption. Also provided is a system for surface treating cellulose sliver fibers. The system includes a vessel containing a moist paste which comprises at least one particulate material possessing one or more preselected desired properties, a thickening agent and water. The paste from the vessel is dispensed directly onto sliver fiber ribbon(s). A bore sonotrode generates ultrasonic waves which embed the particulate material(s) in the sliver fibers.
Abstract: A garment, especially to a sports garment, including a textile substrate which covers a part of the body of the wearer of the garment, wherein at least a section of the textile substrate is coated with at least two different Phase Change Materials, wherein a first Phase Change Material is arranged which has a phase transition temperature between 27° C. and 29° C., wherein a second Phase Change Material is arranged which has a phase transition temperature between 35° C. and 37° C., wherein both of the Phase Change Materials are in thermal contact with at least one thermochromic dye. By doing so, an improved thermal regulation during sporting activities is obtained which can be controlled visually.
Abstract: High permeability curly fibers with enhanced fiber strength are produced by mercerizing cellulosic fibers. The fibers have relatively high values for curl, kink level, wet tensile strength, and bulk density when compared with current fibers. The disclosed fibers can be used in a wide range of applications including paper products such as filters.

Abstract: The present disclosure is directed to a wiping product well suited to absorbing a solvent and releasing the solvent onto an adjacent surface. The wiping product can also be constructed so as to have excellent abrasion resistance. The wiping product can be used in numerous applications and is particularly well suited for wiping unfinished surfaces, such as metal surfaces and composite surfaces for removing contaminants, such as oil and grease. The wiping product is made from a hydroentangled and thermally bonded web containing staple fibers and conjugated fibers.

Abstract: Protective garments are disclosed having an inner lining with high lubricity and high strength characteristics. The inner lining, in one embodiment, contains spun yarns combined with para-aramid multifilament yarns. The spun yarns may also contain flame resistant fibers, such as meta-aramid fibers, FR cellulose fibers, or mixtures thereof. The para-aramid filament yarns provide excellent strength characteristics to the fabric. In addition, in some embodiments, the multifilament yarns may enhance the fire resistant properties of the fabric. In one embodiment, the para-aramid filament yarns may have less than five twists per inch, such as from about 1 twist per inch to about four twists per inch.

Abstract: A composite textile fabric that includes a first (face) fabric layer, and a second (back) fabric layer that is formed concurrently with the first fabric layer in a plaited construction. Abstract: A wrappable textile sleeve and method of construction thereof is provided. The textile sleeve includes an elongate wall extending along a longitudinal axis between opposite ends with lengthwise extending edges extending along the longitudinal axis between the opposite ends. The wall is woven from lengthwise extending warp yarns and circumferentially extending weft yarns with at least some of the weft yarns being heat-set to impart a self curling bias on the wall to bring the edges into overlapping relation with one another. Further, the weft yarns form a plurality of discrete annular bands that extend circumferentially about the longitudinal axis with adjacent bands having different picks-per-inch from one another to provide the sleeve with enhance regions of flexibility, self-curling bias and hoop strength.
Abstract: A fabric substrate material is provided. The fabric substrate includes at least a first layer and a second layer. The first layer includes a first plurality of non-functional fill yarns and at least one functional fill yarn, and the second layer includes a second plurality of fill yarns. The second plurality of fill yarns and the at least one functional fill yarn exhibit substantially the same compressive strength, compressive resistance, or flexural strength. As such, the functional fill yarn in the first layer is protected from shrinkage or expansion and remains undamaged and functional after the fabric substrate is woven and subsequently handled or processed. The aforementioned practice of reinforcement described in the fill direction of the second layer can also be applied in the warp yarn direction, using the same principles described herein.

Abstract: A process for manufacturing a fiber including polyetherketoneketone including the steps of: mixing polyetherketoneketone and sulfuric acid having a concentration of at least 90 wt % to obtain a spin dope and passing the spin dope through a spinneret into a coagulation bath, wherein the polyetherketoneketone is dissolved in the sulfuric acid to a concentration of 12 to 22 wt %. Also disclosed are fibers obtainable by the process and polyetherketoneketone fibers having a sulfur content of 0.001 to 5 wt %, based on the weight of the fiber, in particular such fibers having low or high crystallinity, as well as, hybrid yarns and composite materials.
Abstract: A composite construction, such as, in particular, a composite plate having a sandwich-type construction, has two outer layers which are mutually opposed in parallel and a foam material completely filling the space between the outer layers at least in some regions. The outer layers are interconnected by means of spacers, and the spacers are connected to the outer layers via a cured plastics material.

In order to form coating elements, a plurality of portions of the coating material are applied to a surface of the substrate layer.

Abstract: Methods to increase structural performance, strength, and durability of textile-reinforced composite materials are provided. The textile reinforcement may be knitted, for example, in a flat bed weft knitting machine. The method may include pre-stressing a textile reinforcement preform by applying tension. A polymeric precursor may be introduced to the pre-stressed textile reinforcement preform. The polymeric precursor may then be cured or consolidated, followed by releasing of the applied tension to form the composite article comprising polymer and the pre-stressed textile reinforcement. In other aspects, a composite article is provided that has a pre-stressed textile reinforcement structure and a cured polymer. The textile reinforcement may be a knitted, lightweight, seamless, unitary structure.

The granular material includes elements including a matrix material having a plurality of reinforcing fibers received therein, the elements of the granular material having a melt viscosity of between about 5 and about 15 grams per 10 minutes and a particle size distribution with a range in particle size of between about 50 and about 595 micrometers.
Abstract: An assembled yarn comprises a first yarn and a second yarn. The first yarn comprises a core yarn and a first wrap yarn. The core yarn comprises a spun yarn, wherein the spun yarn comprises a blend of fibers, wherein the blend of fibers comprises first electrically conductive fibers. The first wrap yarn comprises or consists out of one or a plurality of metallic filaments. The first wrap yarn is wrapped around the core yarn with at least 300 turns per meter. The second yarn comprises second electrically conductive fibers. The second yarn is wrapped around the first yarn; or the second yarn is ply-twisted with the first yarn thereby forming a plied yarn. The assembled yarn can be used in electromagnetic shielding fabrics.
