    Abstract: Various methods and systems directed to electromagnetic signal proximity detection are disclosed. For example, an EM detector may include an antenna array for sensing electromagnetic radiation produced by a source of radio-frequency electromagnetic radiation, one or more amplitude demodulation circuits coupled to the antenna array configured to perform an amplitude demodulation of one or more signals provided by the antenna array to produce one or more respective demodulated output signals, and an analysis circuit coupled to the amplitude demodulation circuit configured to determine at least one relative characteristic between the antenna array and the source of radio-frequency electromagnetic radiation. The relative characteristic may be the relative distance and/or angle between the antenna array and the source of radio-frequency electromagnetic radiation. The embodiments allow for signal source detection and location determination without knowledge of the frequency of a target emitter.

With multiple of the plurality of modified dipoles active, the antenna apparatus may form an omnidirectional horizontally polarized radiation pattern. One or more directors may be included to concentrate the radiation pattern. The antenna apparatus may be conformally mounted to a housing containing the communication device and the antenna apparatus.

The receiver is in communication with a GPS system for processing positioning data received therefrom to determine an antenna azimuth direction of the antenna and thereby enable alignment of said antenna by moving the antenna with a predetermined azimuth direction.

The parasitic antenna elements lying in a direction in which the radiating antenna element and the parasitic antenna elements cross each other, and each of the crossing portions of said plural parasitic antenna elements, which portions cross said radiating antenna element, are bent in such a manner that the crossing portions of the parasitic antenna elements are in parallel with the radiating antenna element. Thus, it is possible to provide a planer antenna which can obtain a good circularly polarized wave with a simple construction. In addition, the planar antenna can be downsized.
